Berlin fell to the Russian bear already in 1943, what to do?

Take out Poland early in 1939 and fast. The allies won't D0W you. Wait until the Russians DoW Latavia. Follow their lead and do the same. Latavia will join the English. Now defend (wipeout) the French border. Russia will gain military access through Persia and Afghanistan to attack the Brit's. Once they pull their troops away from the Polish front,DoW & attack.

Well Latvia is already gone (shit) so not much to do there. I guess France is next target for me then. I will leave the bear alone for a while though.

What makes not accepting the partition a bad move? I destroyed Russia in 1941, although I didn't realize at the time that my settings were normal/weakling instead of normal/normal. Still, it was such a "blowout" (I had Leningrad in a month and forced the Bitter Peace after 5 months) I'm not sure what the differences would have been on harder settings. I am planning to play CORE next, so would love to know what makes taking all of Poland a bad move.

7 chances out of 20 that the USSR goes after you straight away (not that directly, that would not be funny ). 7 chances out of 20 that they DOW later.

You were just lucky not to have to face a 2 front war.

EDIT: Tou should play at least on hard due to the HQ penalty that the AI suffers most of the time. normal = easy......

Read my post a couple posts up In CORE, the Sovs generally build forts along the pre-war border, so if you take all of Poland, you're attacking into forts instead of being able to smash the border armies in front of the forts. Also, the tech tree in CORE is radically different from vanilla, as is the AI, so strategies that worked in vanilla tend to lead to nasty surprises in CORE :0

I'm sorry, I wasn't clear in my post. I did read your post about the Soviets fortifying in CORE, I meant why isn't it a good idea in Vanilla?

Yes, Normal isn't very challenging. I wonder if I can switch it mid-game? I'll try it and see.

Looking at the specs, I am certain that if you started Barbarossa in '40 with advaned light tanks (70mm) and A-Brigades, forgot about motorized infantry and waited for mechs, built lots of tanks (they are FAST) you could annihilate the Russians. Of course, I don't ever build subs.

I did this in my current game. I finished Poland, France, the Netherlands, and Belgium off and landed in the UK by Christmas 1939. Then I hit the SU in the spring and basically crushed them. A couple of big encirclements and they were basically done as a serious threat.
I think I had roughly these forces:
12 arm (adv lt 70), 6 arm-E (adv lt 70), 3 arm (basic lt MG)
6 mech, 6 mot, 6 mot-A, 15-20 inf-A, ~100 inf.
12 div, 9tac + 3 escort, 6 escort, 6 interceptor (all basic)
25 (or so) divs of Romanian & Hungarian inf. 7 Romanian cav.

So basically yes, hitting the SU early does seem to work.

Well - I am now Germany in vanilla hoi 106 normal/normal.
The checks wanted to fight - so i took them.
Then I took Poland and Lituania.
Now it is September 1939 and I go versus France thru Belgium.
The Russians DOWed me and I think I am not strong enoguh for the 2 fronts war. Some expert in the forum promised that the Russians would not DOW but insted take Latvia and have war with the british. That was true with my previous game hard/normal and I lost because of waste of time.
Now I wonder
1) probability that the russians dow me vs probability that they take Latvia and have war with the british (anything i can do to avoid their dowing me?).
2) where did i waste my time not having overtaken France already???
