Just a general question: What are benefits of making a province you already own into a vassel? (I have not seen any option to "vasselize" anything other than provinces you already control).

A province with the wrong culture and/or religion that isn't very rich often benefits you more as a vassal than if directly controlled. Vassal states pay you half their income but don't count as needing to be improved for the purposes of advancements or stability.JEDNJ said:

Plus, if they have huge revolt risk, it's sometimes better to just make them a vassal so you don't have to deal with it. It also reduces badboy, doesn't it?

There's one additional benefit--if there's a nation that will probably make trouble for you in the future, you may be able to make them vassals early on and prevent them from becoming a great power. This is especially true for nations that get a lot of good events, don't change religion, and depend on alliances to expand.
