As Republican Spain I attacked Canada in 1937. Then USA dowed me. My belligerance has skyrocketed from around 17 to 110 in just 3 months of combats and it seems to go up each week!! Is this working as designed? Thanks!

belligerance afaik can be increased as follows:
- dow, especially if u dow someone u have peace treaty with (+10 and +20)
- capturing provinces (about +0.5/province, but pang will surely have the correct value)
- some ministers and social policies, like the power-hungry demagogue give bell in war over time (+0.5/month)
- actively using scorched earth
- others using the spy mission "global manipulation" on you

As far as i can tell under normal circumstances you cant raise your belligerence by 100 in 3 months no matter what. Do u have the saves showing the 17 and 110 bell ? if you upload them probably we can figure out how you made that.

After reading your comment, I think the only reason could be all the provinces of Canada and USA I've occupied. Will my belligerance drop after the annexation?

Does it increase over time just for the fact of being at war?

belligerence can decrease as follows:
- being in peace (some ministers or national ideas speeds up the process)
- loosing territories (the same amount you gain with conquering imo)
- you get dowed (double the amount if you was having peace treaty with the agressor)
- releasing puppets (this seems to be the most effective/controllable way. it seems to be double the amount compared to losing the same provinces to the enemy)

i really dont think you was able to capture that many provinces in america within three months. well, unless something very gamey happened. but for that much you should have conquered the great part of both.

i think you don't get any bell just for being in war. or else canada - under normal circumstances - would build up at least 1 bell in 41-42 for being in war from 39sept. so even if it gives it must be an unnoticeably small amount.

btw this is an extraordinary case but i have 29 belligerence as germany in 40summer in a recent mp :) (under normal circumstances with 110 you should be at the gates of moscow at least)

Also as I'm using Iron Cross, the number of provinces is higher that with normal AoD. ^^

Do you know how many belligerance you lose when you're dowed?
sept1937RS.jpg

I've already released Florida. About -10 belligerance.

May seem gamey but it's sure that I will get dowed by Germany in 1940 after the fall of France...

the same amount you would get for dowing -10 and -20 if they broke the peace treaty.

yes, aod bell system wasnt designed for that many provinces. you already conquered more than they have in total on the vanilla map.

anyway i dont think you should pay attention to your belligerence in your game it effects nothing (except if demos can dow on you, but that is out of question in a war with allies & usa)

ps: screenshot. pay attention to your TC, you are under 20%. usa probably can fight you off with militias

yeap, I've already noticed but it's almost impossible to get the TC in green...

Regarding belligerance.... I'm allied with the UK. But I've planned to abandon this alliance after the war against USA and then to join the Commintern when I' I'm ready, maybe around 1943-1944. So... I have a double fear:

-That UK will dow me after I left the alliance.
-That Germany will dow me after Vichy France event. I don't know if that will depend on my belligerance level...

wow, how did u dow canada if you are allied with uk? that seems more and more gamey with every post :)
if u r so gamey probably you just better simply edit the save and either lower your bell or give yourself 5000mp and 500ic and stop worrying about being dowed :)

It is more likely to raise, because you gain provinces. But it might drop very slowly after being at peace again.

It may effect relations and trading ratios. Keeping Belligerence low by releasing puppets helps. It also is to note that that the steady slow belligenrence reduction of puppets is granted to the master, because belligerence is shared. If you have 10 puppets the monthly reduction in belligerence might be signifinant. At least on the AoD map that is.

One can always learn from Pang! and if u have 10 puppets with power-hungry demagogues as HoS you gain +5bell/month ?
