Belkin Routers

All,

I purchased a new laptop for Christmas and I'd like to use it for EU II. Unfortunately, my wireless router is being uncooperative.

I've tried opening the ports, but I'm not even sure that what I'm doing (Application Gateway) is what I'm supposed to be doing. I've also put my laptop in the DMZ. No dice.

Does anyone have experience with this router? Should I buy a new one? And... Er, well, you know, help for the technically illiterate.

I'm hoping to use this for a game tomorrow.

limited knowledge regarding Networks and Routers:

I would check into several options. first being when you setup your Router it takes you to a help page in that help page most if not all options should be discussed for setting up the router. A 1800 or something else should be available there or with the Booklet.<maybe not as in the case with my cheap Router, it has a built in Firewall you cannot Disable or at least I've not bothered to figure out how to disable as I can play with it, just not Host> Wireless can tend to be problems with connection speed<strength of connection> Opening the right Ports should be given to you by another, but I'm certian you should be able to temporarily disable the Onboard Firewall. That may require Technical assistance from your Router Help or Technicians.. If nothing else noone helps, You should be able to join games I am able to... Try that, Eu2 and Vnet are particularly sensitive to some Firewalls

Enable DMZ might not be enough, also open the necessary ports that EU2 use. Your IP might be the problem also, use your Internet IP and not local IP.

Could you give the type of your Belkin wireless router? For example "F5D7630-4A Wireless Router".

If it is the above mentioned router, try to disable the built in firewall (which apparently puts some of the ports on "Stealth" mode) as it might prevent incoming packages.

If disabling the firewall does solve the problem, then you can enable it back, and go to the "NAT" and "Virtual server" -setting and open and forward the relevant ports to your laptop (for more info see your manual, on the pdf manual the "how-to-do" for the NAT and Virtual Server are on pages 34-36).

I'm too lazy to go look, but I can tell you what I found:

There are two options related to gaming and so on. One is called Virtual Server and I haven't figured out how to begin using it. The other is called Application gateway and it has the following:

Trigger Start Port
Trigger End Port
Trigger Type
Public Port
Public Type
Description
Enable (with a check box)

The IP is also the router's IP. Dunno if I should, or how to, put in the IPs of each individual machine.
