Now as a minor country i hope the gameconceptors will not forget i hope that at that time before WW1 Belgium was the 2nd economic/industrialised power just after the British empire... the army was quite impressive too, as Napoleon III did not dare invade the country, the army back then was fully proffesional. On top of that the congo state was fully owned by King Leopold II and war almost erupted between belgium and france because the Congostate was expanding too much. one must not forget that the Belgian King wanted to expand towards the other side of Africa and almost managed.

At most it could have been the 3rd since the US was a larger economy than brittain.

Not completly related but i found a decent figure of Swedens iron production up till mid 19th century.
The production was about 1/3 of the worlds iron trade.

Yeah, but I was trying to say that the initial poster prolly referred to teh fact Belgium was 2nd in time to industrialize and not 2nd in total economy size.

As a measure of per capita industrialisation Belgium was indeed in second or third place throughout the period.

Well the table says 4/5 in 1910 and 6 in 1860.

But i like the Swedish production of power 55150 hp/1000 persons i have a feeling something is wrong there

And profits from the Congo Free State went directly into Leopold's pockets during the 80s 90s and 00s.

Industrial quotas from the Free State (grossly tampered) would have gone against Free State production, not Belgian production (during Leopold's ownership.)

Early in the game, Belgium will indeed be an industrial powerhouse.

As for Peo saying the US was second, not really. For most of the game, it will be an agriculturally heavy state. It was only during the 1880 - 1900 period that it changed over to industry. The period it spent at second was short indeed, as it went from like 5th or 6th (or even lower) right to 1st within the course of a decade or two...

And later in the game not? I mean, the stats in this thread show Belgium still was the eight largest industrial power in 1913.
