I am playing HOI2, fully upgraded with Doomsday and Armageddon, I am playing The Road To War, as Belgium. I spent 1936-1940 building up the Belgian Congo with industry and infrastructure and I figured I wasn't ever going to be able to hold out in Europe once war started, so I shipped my entire army (about 18 divisions) into the Congo.

When the war started, it was not surprising that Germany overran Belgium in about two weeks.

About 3-4 weeks after Germany overran Belgium, I received an event "BELGIAN CAPITULATION" and it said "destroy unit..." and it had this repeating, for ALL of my units, with the message "WE MUST REGROUP IN THE CONGO" but I had already done that.

Why should I lose my ENTIRE army when my ENTIRE army was in the Congo already?

And no, they were not just in the redeployment que, they were GONE, as in DESTROYED, totally, period.

What sort of glitch is this and what could be done to fix it?

I'm afraid I can't help you with that (although I could advise you to reload the last autosave and hope that it was a onetime glitch), but I've got a question:

So the "*colonial power* capitulates" event just means that the country redeploys its army overseas? Wow, I thought that capitulating meant seeking a peace-treaty. I'm asking, because in my current game I had "Netherlands capitulate" and I didn't notice any significant change, so I thought this was broken.

I reloaded and it did it again, right on the same day. It is a scripted event, but it clearly has some glitch aspects to it as part of the text simply read UNKNOWN and had some other values and such. But line after line (18 lines worth) was "DIVISION -NAME- DESTROYED" and such.

Things were not just moving into the que to redeploy, they were destroyed...

If you tried strat-redeploying before that event, so that your troops were in the queue, or pool or whatever that's called, then maybe it couldn't "get" to those divisions in order to destroy them. I guess it's a long shot, but it's better than not trying anything.

Another thing: I actually know next to nothing about editing saves, but I'm betting it would be possible to copy and paste your current list of units to a back-up file, and paste them back (modifying their location, so that they don't deploy in the now-occupied Flanders).

Then again, you've probably already thought of that and are looking for a solution to the bug (which I don't know how to tackle), and not just a way to continue playing.

The event is mean to give Germany your provinces instead of them just occupying them, they now OWN them so they have less dissent.

The divisions dissapearing I guess represents the Belgian Army Capitulating.

The event is designed to prevent gamey exploits just like what you are trying to do. There is no way the European minors that the capitulation events effect would have just abandoned their mainland provinces or could have known to do so in any case. So, to simulated reality, their entire army stands down, as it should.

Why would divisions of colonial forces in the Congo stand down?

Also- a whole new problem...

I began the game over again, 1936, as Belgium, this time disbanding my entire army and spending 1936-1940 doing nothing except building industry and infrastructure in the Congo. By 1942 I had about 30 industry in the Congo, by November 1944 I have a level 5 nuclear reactor, several airbases, a typical provincial infrastructure of 70 in most of the Congo (90 in two of them), and I have 37 factories.

The Germans lose the war in late 1944, and then I get an event "Cabinet returns to Brussels" at which time my industry shifts and I basically lose access to the Congo industry, despite the fact it is still there and it is still listed, 6.0/6.0, 5.0/5.0, etc... My overall industry drops to what the Belgian industry was in Belgium, about 29, rather than going to a base of 67 and an adjusted total of about 80.

Is there any explanation for why I suddenly can no longer use the factories I spent 8 years building in the Congo? I had 4 tech teams for a brief while (once I immediately regained Belgium and the industries built back up from 0.0 to 5.0/5.0, etc) and then as soon as the cabinet returns to Brussels I lose 2 tech teams.

But the fact remains there were Belgian soldiers in the Congo, historically...

When the government in Brussels surrendered, they didn't just walk into the jungle and live in huts for the duration of the war, and they didn't sail/fly to Germany so they could surrender.

Because Congolese provinces are no longer cores for Belgium. It's best to edit the events yourself.

The event supposed to delete the Belgian army, to avoid exploits such as Belgian troops fighting in French lands which can give the German AI a hard time (and for some less experienced players on the maginot line).

All the events in the game serve as an example, that you'll have to edit to your liking or even completely rewrite them; they're just there so you know something should definitely happen the day it happens.

If somebody could walk me through the process to modify the event so all it does is allow me to use the Belgian provinces as national provinces once again, without losing the Congo provinces as national provinces, I'd be much obliged.

Well, Congo would never be able to support those troops right? The event might not be perfect but it prevents exploits. :)

So a core province isn't allowed to have any industry? That's what you seem to imply. Or did you mean that when the game changes the national vs occupied status of a province, it also reverts the whole province back to default?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_Belgian_Forces

The decision of King Léopold III to surrender on May 28, 1940 was not accepted by members of the Belgian government-in-exile (under Prime-Minister Hubert Pierlot), who had fled first to Paris and later to London. Under the auspices of this government, Belgian armed forces were organized to continue military operations as part of the Allies, and existing Belgian colonial troops in the Belgian Congo were made available to the Allied war effort.

The industry is still there, I simply cannot access them or use them for any productive purposes. They are still listed as present in the province, and it is not a case as though they had been bombed and need a few weeks to build back up, they list as 7.0/7.0 or 6.0/6.0, etc, but I immediately lost 2 of my 4 tech teams when the event happened, and I lost access to using all of the 37 Congo factories.

The Congo is one of the most mineral rich locations in the world, the only problem is a lack of viable energy sources (in the game) which would realistically be handled by hydro-electric power (dams). With the 37 factories I built in the Congo, if I was to suddenly grant it independence, it would become an African powerhouse. The Congo, as I built it up, could easily support 20-30 land units.

I mean heck, I even have a level 5 nuclear reactor in the Congo as of November 1944. It has been built up very strong, it should support many things, you know what I mean, yes?

Go into your /Armageddon/db/events folder, and find the file called armageddon_events.txt

Make a spare copy of it, in case you screw up the edit.

Now open it in notepad, and find event # 700003... it will look like this:

Code:
####################################################################################################################
# 700003 - BELGIUM MOVES ITS CAPITAL BACK TO BRUSSELS AFTER GERMANY HAS BEEN DEFEATED & LOSES CORES ON THE CONGO
####################################################################################################################

event = {
	id = 700003
	random = no
	country = BEL

	name = "EVT_700003_NAME" # needs text
	desc = "EVT_700003_DESC"
	style = 0
	picture = "ger_surrender"

	trigger = {
		AND = {
			NOT = { exists = GER }
			owned = { province = 51 data = BEL }
		}
	}

	date = { day = 2 month = january year = 1936 }
	offset = 1 # Check for trigger conditions day
	deathdate = { day = 30 month = december year = 1963 }

	action_a = {
		name = "OK" #
		ai_chance = 100
		command = { type = capital which = 51 }
		command = { type = addcore which = 45 }
		command = { type = addcore which = 50 }
		command = { type = addcore which = 51 }
		command = { type = addcore which = 52 }
		command = { type = addcore which = 65 }
		command = { type = addcore which = 68 }
		command = { type = addcore which = 69 }
		command = { type = addcore which = 70 }
		[COLOR=Yellow]command = { type = removecore which = 1095 }
		command = { type = removecore which = 1142 }
		command = { type = removecore which = 1098 }
		command = { type = removecore which = 1127 }
		command = { type = removecore which = 1144 }
		command = { type = removecore which = 1143 }
		command = { type = removecore which = 1074 }
		command = { type = removecore which = 1071 }
		command = { type = removecore which = 1072 }
		command = { type = removecore which = 1073 }
		command = { type = removecore which = 1063 }[/COLOR]
	}
}
Remove all the "removecore" commands (highlighted in yellow), so that it now looks like this:

Code:
####################################################################################################################
# 700003 - BELGIUM MOVES ITS CAPITAL BACK TO BRUSSELS AFTER GERMANY HAS BEEN DEFEATED & LOSES CORES ON THE CONGO
####################################################################################################################

event = {
	id = 700003
	random = no
	country = BEL

	name = "EVT_700003_NAME" # needs text
	desc = "EVT_700003_DESC"
	style = 0
	picture = "ger_surrender"

	trigger = {
		AND = {
			NOT = { exists = GER }
			owned = { province = 51 data = BEL }
		}
	}

	date = { day = 2 month = january year = 1936 }
	offset = 1 # Check for trigger conditions day
	deathdate = { day = 30 month = december year = 1963 }

	action_a = {
		name = "OK" #
		ai_chance = 100
		command = { type = capital which = 51 }
		command = { type = addcore which = 45 }
		command = { type = addcore which = 50 }
		command = { type = addcore which = 51 }
		command = { type = addcore which = 52 }
		command = { type = addcore which = 65 }
		command = { type = addcore which = 68 }
		command = { type = addcore which = 69 }
		command = { type = addcore which = 70 }
	}
}
Save and exit. Reload your game from before moving your capital back to Europe. This time, when your capital returns to Europe, you will keep your cores in Africa, and the Factories will still count towards your total ICs.

Yes indeed, it worked. The only thing is that I can no longer deploy directly to the Congo, but that is largely irrelevant and is more realistic given that divisions would probably be raised in Belgium (aside from Native/Colonial units).

Many thanks. :)
