Hello everyone!

author: Ikarases

version: TFH 4.02 + personal mods

I've decided to transfer and translate the concept of HPP FtM Belgelands to vanilla TFH. I expect it to be somewhat harder, granted the AI is now more reasonable with TFH and because Germany can just break the Maginot in vanilla...

That's about it for the intro, I hope I won't play through the game just tonight and then never finish the AAR :D

Chapter I: Prelude to War

As you may know from my previous AAR, Belgelands is consisted of Netherlands, Belgium and Luxemburg. Writing an event (I modified “The End of Tannu Tuva” event) is somewhat easier for me than having to mess around with province and OOB files, so that’s why I use Netherlands as a base country to “inherit” Belgium and Luxemburg.

I start to build up fortifications right away. I’m going to build up my army around INF/ART/AT divisions, as I won’t have enough manpower to lump in extra ART, let alone INF brigade.

bZK3ArS.gif

This is the current political situation. I didn’t do anything else than to add Belgian and Luxembourgian ministers.

rf86THm.gif

I’m obviously going for specialist training, as I’ll be limited severely by it.

Oddly enough, starting spies managed to do some good and stole blueprints for building CAS. But to even contest in the air war against the Germans, swarms of INT/MR planes take priority over CAS.

hr3fQLo.gif

I’ve decided to finish both light cruisers I started out with in the production queue: HrMs De Ruyter and HrMs Tromp. This at least gives me more combat ships than transports.

In summer 1938, communist parties are banned!

*Belgiumruler unsubscribes, probably*

In June 1939, multi-role planes can be built!

This is the Belgelandian state of army on 2nd September, just a few hours after Poland was attacked. Command chain is set up, leaders assigned and upgrading begins. Even with leaders from four different countries (I included Indonesian leaders, but not ministers, because we are still filthy imperialists!), all I have left in the end is several 0 level old guard leaders.

Since winter is almost over and the Germans are closing in to the border, the mobilization begins on 19th February 1940.

pdcBXXz.gif

Here is a somewhat unsightly picture of my troop placement. Heavy fortifications have grown behind various rivers, except for Luxemburg however, which is, of course, not behind any river!

c2RR2It.gif

Germany commences hostilities on 1st April 1940 at 1500 hours. I have to kill Norway manually, as Germans land in Trondheim yet again, so Norwegians surrender at midnight to make the game competetive!

Well well, a coördinated IJssel-Maas position by the looks of your troop deployment? This united nation puts you in an interesting situation. Since the Netherlands is the base nation I assume you have to hold Fortress Holland to avoid going GIE?
Regardless, with around 100 IC, at least you have the ability to create an army that can do something. I think. good luck!

Yes, I will defend the mainland. Sitting on Kongo and Indonesia wouldn't get me anywhere. I need to translate my IC into forts and fighters/bombers preferably, as I have only little above 3 MP gain per month and with my current light aircraft practical, I can run out of manpower just by building planes :D

I've reached August already and the game took an odd spin already. You'll see :)

Chapter II: Defense!

Germans start bombing our fleet stationed in Amsterdam immediately. Luckily, it seems we’ll be able to put up a good fight against them in the air.

0xHK5mS.gif

First skirmishes take place a week into the war. The weakest link of defense is Luxemburg; however forts are making it hard for Germans.

MpbSLpC.gif

Second, and more serious attack takes place in Nijmegen.

67Vbb71.gif

The attack is called off after a few days regardless, as more reserves are dispatched to this area.

TVa1fqM.gif

On 24th April, our fleet engages a strong German fleet near Oslo.

9mJQqHS.gif

We manage to sink a light cruiser bearing name Königsberg, however some of our own light cruisers are heavily damaged.

Chapter III: Norwegian Gambit

Supreme commander of the Belgelandian army decided to start a risky, yet promising liberation of Norway on 6th June. It was known that Swedes are however granting Germany military access; hence more troops were to be shipped later. The initial invasion force was consisted only of specialized/light troops.

RWwUx9R.gif

It was a great surprise for our question mark leader when he got attacked from Oslo by Rommel. Only the motorized elements of our invasion force had the power to pierce the few armored elements his infantry division had, making the situation precarious.

G5AQcZI.gif

Rommel called off the attack after the second beachhead, consisted solely of cavalry, charged at Oslo itself. Given good weather and no more German troops in the area, our mobile troops quickly swung around and surrounded the Norwegian capital from all sides and the attack on Oslo begun on 12th.

NkTkq32.gif

Lieutenant general Maurice Keyaerts assumed the command over the assault on Oslo on 16th.

iIQ49eq.gif

Finally, on 21th June, Rommel’s division gave up the fight. Several German divisions are arriving via Swedish border already.

gvNwZkk.gif

This is the state of Allied armed forces in Oslo on 6th July.

b2qlCwP.gif

Our mobile divisions are tasked with harassing the enemy by cutting off supply lines.

iLH11ka.gif

On 16th July, Kristiansand is taken. We’re also dealing with a German encirclement attempt.

BI9gDSu.gif

Germany attacks Oslo a day later. Reinforcements are however holding strong, as they have the weaponry to pierce their tanks!

5NGyo6S.gif

The battle concludes on 20th and we take Stavanger as well!

zje0bu4.gif

Oslo is encircled an attacked on 31st, however even more divisions are shipped in to fend off German tanks. On the bright side, Trondheim and Narvik are now the only ports Germans can use to supply their divisions in Norway!

rDbrBhS.gif

Grim news comes on 1st August, as Italy decided to join the war.

tAKyPha.gif

Will France fall? Will Belgelands be able to liberate Norway in time? Will...?

Well, how could I know, I haven’t played ahead yet! :D

Looking good so far. With Italy in the war there are more options for secundary fronts against the Axis, that might keep them off balance.
Good luck!

Can I have that event Ikar? Pretty please? :)

as I have only little above 3 MP gain per month

The pain of the minor nations although the balance is nowhere to be seen. I've checked it out a while ago and especially (without being biased) with the Netherlands compared to other nations the MP and MP gain is ridiculous. I've tried to create an event at some point where, if certain conditions were met, I could choose to change the Indonesian natives into Dutch citizens and gain a lot more MP (something like the Anschluss) and increase MP gain...... the event crashed the game  so I gave up on that. Hence my previous question.

Other than that, interesting game you are playing so far!

It's actually an event and a decision. I'll give you the whole pack I use:

I just checked and I have 5.2 or so during wartime. The event allows you to inherit all the manpower from the component states, so you sit on about 300 manpower at the start after disbanding the regulars. Oddly enough, I spotted that Belgium has only twice the manpower Luxemburg has. I agree though with Indonesia having ludicrously low MP generation, as it has only 4 MP in total and I'm not even counting the -90% overseas penalty...

Other than that, interesting game you are playing so far!

Thanks, I've already played a bit ahead and Belgelands is active everywhere! :)

100+ IC? Impressive. I didn't think Benelux had so much industry. This also explains how you managed to create such a large army. :D Anyway, the German forces at the Belgalandian border in March 1940 seemed pretty weak; weren't you tempted to do a limited offensive and eliminate at least some of them?

On another note, allow me to voice my concern about those 3 divisions cut off east of Bergen. : P

I'm receiving some LL from both France and Britain. I may consider dropping it, as I'm currently using the IC to build a perimeter of level 10 forts around my country :D

Check the second last picture; you can see an amphibious attack in Gulen to help them out :)

Subbing!
I have no idea what mod this is, but looks awesome. :D

It should be vanilla + these files + maybe if I misclick and happen to load "World in Conflict" mod made by Feye with a few minor adjustments for MP.

And yes, that cyan color is Luxemburgian :D
