As a British subject of Her Majesty, I am not happy about this 'celebration' of the treasonable acts of our colonial rebel cousins.
Down with George Washington!, God Save The Queen!
(Only joking........honest......)
Ouch. Classic. :rofl:Probably because a Belgian story would have been awfully short.![]()
To be fair, the American revolution was won by British people, British generals, British politicians and British militaries. So celebrate July 4th! A Great British victory against the Tryanny of Britain!
But anyway, that was a nice little preview, makes up for the lose of the DDs.
Belated Happy 4th of July
Ouch. Classic.
Actually, it was won by Americans. The war started in 1775, independence was declared in 1776 (at which point we stopped being British and became American) and it was won in 1783. Now if you wanted to say it was started by British subjects, then that would be true, as would saying it was won by "former" British subjects. But hey, I still think of the Brits as our cousins so no hard feelings.
Just a little trivia most people including most Americans are not aware of, the US Army is 1 year older than the country. The US Army was formed on June 14, 1775 (called the Continental Army at the time). This makes it more than a year older than the country.
By hte way. The American Revolution was in effect won by the French.

Spoooookkkky! - Both you and Gigalocus are from Plymouth - you must be cousins then![]()
I can tell you thats factually incorrect for two reasons. For one, Armies win wars, not navies. And for two, the French have never won any wars, unless you want to count the French revolution, but then that was French on French so its both a win and a loss.

Perhaps we can count the Normand invasion of England 1066 as a French victory?.
