I'm new to the game, tried to watch many videos for advice, but I am struggling to improve gold at the beginning. As alliances are constantly wanting help in wars which is decreasing my gold quickly. I am only creating one small army each time to save gold but this still isn't helping please can someone give me some advice on how to stop this from happening?

Well the best thing to do is build buildings that raises money like the farm buidlings which give like 0.7 gold I believe, also make sure to get 100% country control to make sure you get 100% of the gold.

The other important thing is to not get over the domain limit and vassal limit otherwise it will reduct the amount of gold and levies you get. You should also make sure not to make to much men of arms they are a lot more expensive then levies.

Don't join all of your allies wars as well, being in was is really expensive and you should not join all wars your allies start, in case you do want to join, raise an part of your army like the half of it it will save a lot of money as well

Thanks, I've been trying to get county control but it's taking too long and I'm getting constant invites to wars before my Marshall completes the first control. Does it make a difference if I decline wars? Or shall I not create so many alliances?

Declining wars will drop your prestige. I usually don't make alliances outside my realm unless there is a major threat of invasion or if I want to conquer someone else

You can join the war and not raise your army, you'll get an event asking for you to contribute after a few years. As norse you can raid anyone, your men at arms also cost far more than levies

Raid. In fact, if you ever play as a reformed-religion realm, get the Practiced Pirates cultural tradition and...RAID. Raiding is the quickest way I've found to get not only gold but also the piety and prestige needed to create and reform your religions and cultures.

Try not to make too many alliances because they will drag you into drawn out, pointless wars which only serve to prevent you from...RAIDING.

Also, on every succession, immediately grab the Stewardship "Golden Obligations" perk. Once you have it, find the best Spy Master you can and set them to constantly search for secrets in large foreign realms. With Golden Obligations you can bribe people for gold and make lots of gold.

In the beginning (at least) your demesne gold income doesn't even compare to the rate of gold you can accumulate from raiding and bribery. So don't focus on or worry about that too much.

Practiced pirates isnt that good for new players due to prestige loss

You lose prestige based on how much gold you return home with. So the trick is to return home with very little gold if you don't want to lose too much prestige. Raiding one or two low loot-value holdings can trigger a cycle of huge high prestige and piety battles. So Practiced Pirates is basically an option-select: you can exchange prestige for gold, or sacrifice the county loot for the prestige and piety from raid-defense battles.

I played as Halfdan not too long ago and I found out (like you) that the alliances are counter-productive. At game start, you have the extra levies so you really don't need allies to deal with anyone around. My advice would be, don't form any alliances and after you win your first war, keep the 3 provinces in Duchy of York (Jorvik) - they are all plains (iirc), and can provide decent income early on.
Then just go raiding. In Wessex, Canterbury can give a lot of gold, try to target that first. Then, keep an eye on powerful realms who are at war, and raid around their capital - those are usually rich. You can sail right up to Paris, and if the French king is at war god-knows-where, he will never march back in time to stop your raid. The key is to not be too greedy, you don't want to get caught out and lose your army. Raid, bail, bring back gold, build income buildings, repeat
Once you get more experienced, you will be able to judge better the times when getting caught is desirable to fight battles for prestige. But if you're new, just focus on bringing the money home

I tried to raid but it wouldn't give me the option it was greyed out no where was allowing me to raid, im also now struggling with declaring a war for more land. I've fabricated a claim successfully clicked on declare war but when declaring war on the final section its greyed out after selecting the casus belli
