How do you guys handle states when doing a WC?
Do you state as many (rich) states as possible in order to get more ducats or is it too expensive in Admin points to do so?
Are there states that you would recommend to state that are not obvious maybe?

States have lower minimum autonomy and are about 4 times worth than territory(except trade company) of 75% floor. Therefore, it is costly-effective in terms of resources per adm points to turn territory into states than conquering new lands if you need ducats/manpower/forcelimits/etc. So I make states if I feel like ahead of time (i.e. I am certain I can do wc before 1821 time limit) instead of core conquered lands.

About the choice of which area to state, I pick those close to existing states. This way helps institution spreads and keep them defended for prosperity bonus. Trade goods, higher development, better terrain, coastal can be good criteria as well.

In the early game I do state a lot, often the cap - 1 (the last state is used for the state-unstate autonomy trick). If possible I only state states with more than 20 dev. Depending how rich the states are I'll stop stating before hitting the cap. Often it's around 20-30 states.
Most of the case it's a bit of gut feeling. Is my income good enough? Do I have admin to spare? Are my estates flexible enough? etc etc

If you hit trade company area early it's even fine to stop using states. It's also a plus side from vassal feeding that cores are already full cored, so no cost in stating those area.

Ooh, does this mean that for a WC you have to conquer, but not to core, everything?? I wasnt aware of that one.

It's also a plus side from vassal feeding that cores are already full cored, so no cost in stating those area.

Oh, this is genius. You can go to your full cap of States, because you dont even have to pay for it in admin.

Sorry for my bad English. I meant, if I am sure I can do wc before 1821, I will do spend adm points to state rather than to conquer and core new lands.

Yup, but that is only a last resort to make for the deadline.

You don't pay in admin, but you pay in dip. That is why vassals are maditory in WC. you'll use both admin and dip to expand instead only admin

Personally I take all of portugals islands and as much of their mainland as possible but next time I will try and nab some land from England, but how do you get past the Royal Navy early in the game? Wait for Aragon pu?

No, they dont have such a grand navy. You just build a few more war ships and you already can beat them, even easier when you have allies with ships.
(dont remember the exact ship numbers, but this was how it went in my game.)

1. There is no meaningfull Royal Navy under AI England.
2. Castille has Heavy Ship CA. Their fleets melt anything.
3. Expecting the AI to do anything usefull at the right time is a brave idea.
If I could hit agree X3 I would. But I'm a casual player and don't abuse it, but I need to check England's starting fleet
But back on topic, I feed Gascony and other minors if possible. Taking away Bordeaux is like taking away Sevilla from Castille which I did in a Portugal run.

I thought i needed to share this, it's hilarious

Allied France, got mil access and declared on England with France, took 3 provinces from portugal (cobelligerent, algarve and beja so that marocco doesn't take them and porto cause of the CoT), also took gascon cores and normandy, gave france nothing (they got maine from the event). It's weird but France is happy if you just take land from England away, seems like the "took land from rival" bonus cancels the "didn't give land in peace deal" malus

Burgundy(+Brittany) declared on Provence like they always do, called in France. That a 75/25 in favor of Provence/France, which sucks cause Provence likes to cancel the Burgundian PUs. Being the bastard that I am, I rented a 20k stack to britanny against my ally france

Try it out, it works ;) I call this strategy Habsburg encirclement - like the Habsburgs in history I try to get every province around france so they have nowhere to expand

Nope, when Burgundy/Brittany lose against Provence/France Provence makes Burgundy release it's PU subjects (Holland, Brabant, Flanders). And since you don't get them via Inheritance in that case you gotta make sure Provence loses

That's why I rented Brittany my troops.

Yeah, "Habsburg encirclement" is a nice thing when it works out! ;)

I was actually talking about giving them french provinces to keep them happy and build a land connection between them and me (and not take all AE for it)

However, now that you mentioned it, I gotta try feeding them London ;)

You can't transfer London to them, unless this has changed, or they land on Kent and take that. I've tried. I do feed them any HRE land I can, and then remove it from the HRE, which pisses off Austria, but who cares, it's more land for me to return when I become Emperor and seek to pass all the reforms super quickly.

If you eat France or most of it, is it still possible afterwards to get the Electors to vote you as the emperor or will they be to outraged and frightened?
If you're not Emperor before most of France is gone you're not rushing the diplo route.

The Africa > Ottoman > India > Emperor route (or Byz > OE > India route) is slower than Emperor+Vassal Swarm > Ottomans > Russia

But if you don't want to tag switch from Spain to the HRE it's a bit of a waste if you want to one tag, still I don't disagree, I just don't like going 90% of the way on the HRE, which I've only formed once because I just want to stay Spain, and last time I did the flipping around it broke all the treaty of Tors whatever it is.

Also, don't forget the Commonwealth, it's available to all Christian nations, you can fairly easily get a PU over them around 1600-1610 if you are lucky or you may have to fight them for it, but dang, in my latest game they diploannex Savoy and a few other places before my 63 year old King flipped their country to a Kingdom in 1604, giving me only a time crunching and scary claim throne war. We were the only two great powers in the Euro by that time, but I had pre planned this by allying with a Novgorod Russia, so it was go time and a lot of fun.

Try it at home, heck I just supported my heir since pretty much 1450ish, had two kings including the last one, you get a huge +200 relations boost from getting your dynasty elected, but you got to park a dip there for a hundred years. You can help yourself by spreading your dynasty to other claimants, so even if it is not your candidate it could still be your dynasty. I think I had one Bohemian King in the early 1500s with my dynasty on the throne but I wasn't paying very close attention.
