It would be nice to have an event that enables you to have the first firearms infantry type after you reach a certain land technology
Well, it could give you a small number of prestige

In real life a full tenth of the infantry was used firearms as their primary weapons, while that doesn't sound like a lot it is considering Hongwu had an army nearly two million soldiers. The Chinese used anti personnel artillery pretty much all the time, before game start the ships were being armed with cannons and handguns.China starts with "Asian Longspear Infantry", "Asian Longbow", and "East Asian Spearman". Firearms infantry type doesn't mean that the device to propel metal into someone's body using the energy expended by exploding gunpowder is invented, it means that they are good, accurate and reliable enough so that at least most people in a troop formation uses one. As far as I know, in the Imjin War (late 1500s), only the Japanese used (Portugese) firearms, though the Koreans and Chinese did have cannons.

Regardless, at certain milestones, it would be nice to get a historical popup giving you a small history lesson, and maybe an optional Wikipedia link if you want to learn more. For instance, when I pass the "enclosure" decision, there should be a little link to the enclosures wiki page.
One of the disadvantages of EU3 compared to EU2 was that it was very easy to play EU3 and gain no real knowledge of the events that took place during this time period. While I still think sticking to the sandbox approach is best gameplay wise, having flavor text about the real history would still be great. For instance, if you round the cape of good hope, you might get a pop up detailing how the Portuguese rounded the cape, even though you're currently playing as the English.
