Beginners Country?

Hello everybody!

I'm a starter for EU4 and I just bought EU4 with some DLC that I didnt knew that I bought them with it.

But what country is the best beginners country to play with???

I really like to eventually play as Friesland to unite the Nethelands and colonize the world with it XD.

But that is a little bit hard I think so what country can I begin with?

I suggest Portugal if you just want to learn the mechanics a bit without having too much fear of war, as Castille generally wants to be your friend.

Portugal for peaceful colonizing, Ottomans for warfare. I wouldn't suggest Castile, if you can't make France love you then you'll be in for some bad times.

I would play as Ottomans first, then Portugal, then France. Muscovy is pretty easy too since you can tech up faster than the hordes around you.

Considering you have Res Publica and Wealth of Nations, I suggest a Merchant Republic. Perhaps Hansa/Lubeck. Or Genoa. They both start members of the HRE, giving you protection from the big powers whose trade you will steal from under their nose.

My goal is to eventually play as Friesland and unite the Netherlands so Trade is an important thing.
Because the Netherlands is a great trade power in history.
So what Joos said is maybe a good thing too to understand the Merchant thing.

And Colonizing is important too so Portugal is a good country for that I red.
Ottomans is for the warfare and for uniting the Netherlands I need to know the warfare things.

I think I will start trying to play as Portugal and if I understand that I can try to play as the Ottomans.

I'd say Muscovy. As Muscovy you get to play with all aspects of the game. Muscovy starts in a strong position and is able to grow fast. It lets you play with vassals, and colonization, and trade, and more complex diplomacy with religious reformation because Muscovy is Christian, and religious struggles with the Muslims south of it. You can also westernise or not, the penalty for eastern is mild. You get to fight on land and water. Due to their position you don't have to worry as much about coalitions. You don't have to worry about manpower. And it is quite satisfying to see your borders grow in huge swaths. They have lots of flavour events. Muscovy is definitely the best choice for a new player.

The biggest obstacle to any of my Netherlands attempts is always Aggressive Expansion and Imperial Free Cities. Starting as Friesland gets around the problem of tking them when they often end up as a free city and difficult to conquer by the other Dutch minors. However, the dutch provinces are wealthy, and the AI loves to spend it's monarchy points on developing them. They quicky become so rich that it's impossible to take one without causing a coalition to form, so you'll need to practice how to minimise and deal with them, or be extremely lucky and quick with your conquests.

As Friesland you have to hope that Austria (or any other large Holy Roman Emperor nation) doesn't get the Burgundian Inheritance, or that Burgundy is broken up by the major prowers before it can annex all it's personal unions. Don't be afraid to expand to the east into Germany, north into Scandinavia or even into Britain and Ireland if you get the chance. You'll need more than just the Low Countries to defend yourself, and keep large colonial nations under control.

Another good beginners country is probably Ayuttaya. Early on you can usually ally Ming quite easily. You are stronger than your neighbours, and if you screw up Ming will have your back.

Nothing at all! I merely found the situation amusing, so I googled "spelling memes". Although the meme I chose is not exactly right in this context, the fact that you went out of your way to triple check the spelling, and then came back here to tell about it means it was the perfect choice.

I'd say muscovy is a terrible choice for a new player. There's too many things to worry about, namely tech. I can almost guarantee a new player in muscovy will get stomped.. either by the commonblob and allies or by sweden.

I'd say it's the opposite. As Muscovy you don't have to worry about lots of things as much as other countries. Sweden might be difficult to conquer, but it's not as hard to defend against Swedes. The only real enemy is Lithuania, as Polish Commonwealth rarely attacks Muscovy. That said, every country can be attacked by some other country. That's the point of the whole game, and taking this into consideration I still say Muscovy is by far the best.

I suggest Poland. Ally Austria and Sweden once they're independent and you basically can never lose,Especially once the personal union event with Lithuania fires... As long as they're under you in PU they have 60k troops that they use to fight all your wars for you, you dont even control them. it's amazing. You're invincible unless you're just completely incompetent. Worlds best cavalry by a disgustingly long shot, great ideas, decent provinces, good allies, and plenty of opportunities for expansion, mainly AGAINST muscovy and the ottomans.

With the quality of your troops you can solo muscovy easily even if they outnumber you.
