Can Paradox please give us an anticipated release date of the 1.2 patch along with a list of what this patch is going to do/fix/enhance.

Thanks!

Paradox does not give dates (which is clever if they want to postpone releases to fix that Last Thing). But it would certainly be nice to have a list of bugs already fixed.

And what about the requested list of what the patch will address? This is very important because if we know what it fixes we canbe alert for bugs that we know Paradox is not working on and may not be aware of yet.

The problem is, it's pretty hard to say when for Johan & co. When that is said, this has taken a lot more time than before, I just hope it isn't a new trend... Too many games and too little time/programmers I guess. I love the games and is patient, but I've noted an increased irritation both here and on other forums and on persons I've talked to who has the game(and don't know Paradox's way of doing things).

When this enhancment is done, it's time for Paradox to take a serious look at it's patching/enhancment-strategy.

1.2 has taken way, way to long time.

My impression is that most veterans quit playing HOI2 v1.1 a couple of months ago. And if some of the signals given on this forum is correct, both MP and mod-work is in ruins.

Previous games like EU 1/2 and HOI has a looong list of patches. Some morons has used this to attack Paradox for releasing unfinished games. I understand that some of the Paradox crew has taken this personally. This time almost everything will make the cut for 1.2. It makes me fear that 1.2 or 1.3 will be the last for HOI2.

I believe your previous policy for patching/enhancments has been a lot better. More frequent and numerous, and with a constant renewal of intrest in the playing experience.
It has been a work in progress, where we as players has been enthusiasticly involved in discussing the design choises and game-balancing. It has been wonderfull, and at times deeply frustrating. The loyalty and involment in Paradox from it's coustomers has, as a result, been unparrallelled in gaming history.

This kind of involment is a closed door to the grunts like me on this forum, with the new patching-policy. How can I be involved in something that does not exist?

No patch - no news - no involvment.

Im sad to see Paradox on it's first steps on the way to become just another gaming company.

Please don't let the morons kill the joy of working with games. There will always be personal, unlogical and irrational attacks when you invite anonomous persons to this kind of forums. But it is this kind of involment and openess that made Paradox special...

WarDog: I agree. The patch strategy of Paradox is something I always have loved with this company, it's the best customer service I've ever encountered. It would be a great loss if some dickheads have forced them to abadon that great policy.

Okay, it's been not quite 3 months since Johan posted about 1.1. The game's barely been out 3 month today.

He's said that they're looking at EVERY issue and trying to get them all fixed. In addition, I'm betting that one of their changes in patch policy is to look at balancing BEFORE issuing a patch, something they did not do with the other games. If 1.3 is it, but it includes as many changes as HOI 1.6 did, what's the difference?

There's a lot of issues a lot of people raise. I'm willing to bet a lot of this is sitting with the design team and saying, "Okay, this is unpopular. Some people are getting it, and liking it, but some aren't. Do we WAD this one, or is there some sort of tweak we can make to this system?"

I'd much rather Paradox take all the discussion into heart and spend the time working on patches than posting a long list of "this is what we're working on". And that list is liable to change at any moment.

That being said, Johan has said they're looking at EVERYTHING people have commented on. That doesn't mean changing it all, but reexamining it and discussing it, certainly. A major undertaking, especially since no game company has gone into the depth of detail that Paradox has in creating their games.

They're also in the tight position of which faction to give into. Any company wants to gain market share, of course. But Paradox started as a niche company and continues to be one to this day. They try and get to the average gamer by simplifying, and some of their core market complains about some things being to simple. They bring in new players and they complain that they don't have enough directed control. Catch-22.

With a patch of 1.2's (intimated) scope, rushing anything out the door is just asking for things to come out broken. Ask anyone who was in on the Star Wars Galaxies launch. Rushing a patch out the door to fix a couple of (comparatively minor) borked issues winds up borking the whole game, and you're spending more time fixing the problems raised with the patch than advancing and improving the game.

Most companies will issue the one patch when a game comes out from release that they wrote while it was in production and that's it, unless there's a MAJOR game breaking issue. Be glad Paradox actually supports past 1.1.

If you reread it, you might notice that it's NOT an attack on Paradox. What it is, is a question about their patching-policy. If you can't tollerate a question, maybe you should try some tranqualizers?

Yes, I know Paradox look at EVERYTHING this time around. The problem with solving EVERYTHING, is that it takes time.

Not EVERYTHING needs solving NOW, but some thing do. There are gamebreaking flaws with this game.

My point is that I suggested that Paradox prioritized and released maybe an 1.1b two months ago and continue working on the more timeconsuming enhancment.

This could have made me continue playing while waiting for the big AI-enhancment. Hey, it might have given us something else then the us-french-boooring discussions.... ;)

And, by the way, I find your claim that Paradox did not look at balancing issues before releasing patches before as both stupid and insulting.
(Though a bit fun to see you bend everyting to "defend" Paradox in a way that ends up as an "attack")

Of cause any patch will affect gamebalance. Of cause it will be mixed feelings about it. And we will discuss the crap out of every single issue. But that is what I find interesting about these forum, not your kiss-a** attitude.

And with that, I guess It's time for MY medication... :D

He who assumes maks an as...... Don't assume I am one of those who can't play another game without the patch. I am not. But I liketo think ahead and plan ahead and it would help me to do that if I had a ball park on when we might see the patch. And understanding just what bugs the patch is addresing would go a long way toward helping us further debug this most excellent game. I am not trying to rush Pradox with the patch. I am simply asking a GOOD question which I believe the buyers of HOI2 deserve an answer to if Paradox wants to be noted for excellent Customer Service.

Further, I believe you belittle Paradox when you say, "How about we let him get on with it, and not deter him further from finishing it." You assume Paradox only has only person working on coding and testing the patch. I believe they have or at least should have more than one person doing that or we'll never see the patch in a timely mannor and I believe Paradox is professional enough to throw more than 1 man on this task. HOI2 is the best game to ever hit themarket in my opionon and a lot can be done to make it a top seller for years and years and years. Not even posters like you who choose to offend fellow Paradox supporters can chase us supporters away. :)

I read your message, and I agree with the way they're handling the patching this time around better than in the past. I didn't post here before, but I've played Paradox games for a long time. I started with HOI 1.3 and have played most of their games since.

I have no kiss ass attitude. I have one that says, "Talk about it here, they'll see it, e-mail them saves, and let them freakin' work".

As far as not fully looking at the ramifications of a patch, I would say they didn't. If you're getting to 1.6, even on a game of this scale, you're not finding and fixing mistakes, or you're not looking at the ramifications of the patches you're putting out. One or the other. Either way, something's not getting done right.

If you're patching every month to two months for the first 6 months of a game's release, you're not doing something right, or you're only part fixing something, and having to rebalance every time you patch. This translates into more time on each individual patch.

I'm not claiming they didn't look at these things before, just not in depth enough. Give me complete, well balanced patches, and I'll be happy.

As far as game breaking issues go, I fail to see them. Some inconvenient issues? Sure. Something I can't work around and still play the game through 1947? Nope. Haven't hit anything that's stopped me in my tracks and made me say, "Crap, I just can't complete the game now!". Some things that are game breaking just because players don't like them? Not a broken issue, you just don't like the game. Get over it.

I agree with WarDog entirely. Something seems... different about Paradox lately. I miss the ol' strategy of releasing patches all the time. It made me feel like Paradox cared about me and it showed they still had interest in the game and the community.

Right now I sort of feel abandoned, as if HOI2 is on the back-burner...

I support Paradox (I'm wearing my HOI2 t-shirt right now :D), but I feel like Paradox isn't supporting me right now. :(
