He surely looked old enough to have grandchildren already. (By the way, it's odd that Uriel IV Septim didn't have grandchildren considering his eldest must be what? 30? 40?)

Actually, Geldall Septim, his eldest son, was 56 when he died.

Maybe he didn't get Children until he came back from Oblivion?

No, according to in-game literature in Oblivion, his children were all in their 50s, and killed shortly before the Emperor himself. Martin seems significantly younger, but his 3 legitimate sons (and, I'm guessing, Calaxes) were born well before the Imperial Simulacrum.

That was Uriel VII, not Uriel IV, but yes, one of the first lines of dialogue you hear in Oblivion is that the Emperor's family have all been murdered.

I'm more optimistic about the Medes. The members of the dynasty we've seen so far are populistic, wise, and skilled commanders (and soldiers). I'm convinced that it's not altogether impossible for them to overcome the Dominion. After all, they control roughly the same land (3 provinces each, if we are to count Skyrim), and Morrowind doesn't seem to be on such unfriendly terms with the Empire anymore, and would probably help against the Dominion (since they are described in Skyrim as having "no love" for the Thalmor).

Morrowind is in no shape to do anything, between the eruption of Red Mountain and the Argonian invasion the Dunmer likely do not even have full control of their own borders, nevermind the ability to assemble anything resembling a task force to help the Empire. As for the Medes and the Empire, they lost against the Thalmor with a fully united empire, including Skyrim and Hammerfell, I highly doubt that the current Mede empire, after the bloodletting in Skyrim and Hammerfell seceding, will be able to reasonably resist the Thalmor should they come a-knocking. Theres only three things that could save the Mede empire. Either the Empire gets another ruler on par with Tiber Septim, the Aldmeri Dominion breaks apart from within, or the Argonians get involved, and it may require two or even all three of those things happening.

Then there is the whole issue of MK cryptically saying that the Thalmor 'win', but the devil is in the details. The Dwemer also 'won' in their war against the Chimer, they just never anticipated that their desire to become god would result in them being physically incorporated into the Numidium. c0da seems to indicate that considering that the Thalmor are mentioned only in passing, and that they 'do not exist' anymore.

Actually it is implied that the conflict in Hammerfell turned into a nam esque fiasco which bled the thalmor white.

Well, the whole reason why the Mede dynasty is falling apart is because it is rather widely believed that he surrendered when the Empire still had some fight left in it.

As for the Medes and the Empire, they lost against the Thalmor with a fully united empire...

Didn't Summerset Isle, Valenwood and Elsweyr secede from the Empire at the start of the Fourth Era, before the Great War? That's not a fully united empire.
Unless you mean the human provinces of the Empire of course, which seem to be the main contributors to the Legions in troops anyway.

As with the Thalmor winning... yeah, I also suspect their victory will be one as a that of the Dwemer. Whatever their intentions, messing with Lorkhan/Shezarr/Talos gets very bad results in TES lore.

There's a fourth option: a hilariously OP hero arises a fixes everything!

I really hope the Dragonborn is in the end an aversion to this; instead of saving the Empire (or further sinking it, whatever), I hope the "canon" ending of TESV is the DB willingly becoming Hermaeus Mora's champion and going completely bonkers/doing some futile rebellion like Miraak's, while the Empire sinks (independently of winning the Civil War or not), the Thalmor "succeed" with whatever their plan is... but their success is not what they experted , and so on.
At least I think it would be a nice aversion to the nordic hero stereotype. Then again we already have this in the Champion of Cyrodill anyway, he "saved" the Empire, which then proceeded to last not very long, and then he went on to become a daedra.

If the Thalmor succeed in their plans, there won't be a setting for another Elder Scrolls game.

As long as however the Thalmor doesn't take out all Altmer in the process (I love playing as them too much) a la Dwemer, I don't particularly care.

I highly doubt the Dragonborn will make much of an appearance after Skyrim, primarily because Bethesda refuses to define the shezzarine's race/gender because their general idea is that your supposed to imagine your chosen 'character'...

As for heroes, well, considering what happened to Morrowind and Cyrodiil after their 'heroes' came crashing through, I am more leaning towards the Shezzarine being a curse as opposed to a blessing.

...and of course, bad things happening to Skyrim

That seems to be the trend, yes. I mean, it's the logical outcome... if the figure that just helped bringing the world(Not even counting becoming the guild master of every single guild and other sidequests) back from the brink suddenly disappears instead of stabilizing the situation and keeping it all together, whatever he has accomplished tends to crumble fast and hard.

I always thought of the PC doing all those different guilds made the most sense if you considered them to be different people. You can play through all of them on one character, but thematically they're different people that all exist at the same time.

I'm just overly fond of the Empire of Tamriel.

It's one of the few empires in Western fiction to be portrayed even semi-sympathetically and they've got my support because of it. Besides history has proven time and again that the only thing that can get the thickheaded peoples of Tamriel to cut down on the pathetic infighting is a strong central authority based in Cyrodiil.

Note that the only reason why the Septim empire is portrayed 'well' is because virtually everything written about it was written from the POV of Empire propagandists... the actual truth is a lot darker, unfortunately.

Bethesda's take on the matter is more or less this: The Player Character really did the Main Quest and possibly all official DLC. All Side Quest's happened too, someone did them, that someone may or may not be the PC.

Note that the only reason why the Septim empire is portrayed 'well' is because virtually everything written about it was written from the POV of Empire propagandists... the actual truth is a lot darker, unfortunately.

I'd take Imperial order over the chaos that came before and after any day. Life sucks for everyone in Tamriel. At least with a strong empire you know what you're getting.

But that doesn't matter because apparently destiny says it has to die and there is absolutely no fighting destiny in TES.

speaking of the Nerevarine I have a guy who in this case i think fits all these Criteria.

EweYtwU.png

now before you go all "but he's an ashlander in Vvardenfell" please note that we have no idea of his point of origin! in fact i dare say he's the son of Uncertain parents. Enough joking around though.. in seriousness having the Nerevarine fit a list of criteria is nice but don't let it get too long... and please.. if an NPC rises up in the ashlands and not only defeats the tribunal, as this one did, but also causes it's collapse and outcast from Vvardenfell then i most certainly believe that he should be treated as if he where the Nerevarine... now.. could someone please point me to the thread about editing savefiles and modding in bloodlines... I have a Ashlander to edit..
