I recently joined an already existing federation. As I understand it an empire's economy, fleet strength, and tech are what is used to determine the president as opposed to the timer of old. However, even though I am the strongest in all three categories and the current president is rated as "pathetic" compared to me I am not becoming president.

Is the there a button I'm missing or a way to trigger a vote or something? I can't see any indication on the federation interface itself.

I think it checks every ten year or so, but no, there isn't a way to force a check. Would be nice if it announced that the presidency had changed tho, current game I didn't notice that I had become president till I started getting combat notifications about the fed fleet, who were chasing a pirate fleet for the last leader.

I'm fairly certain only economic power is used in the calculation.

Played an MP game and lost the president title once another player had surpassed me suffeciently (I believe it is 25% more) in economy. My tech points were 5x ahead of him and he at times had no fleet to save money. Which leads me to believe the economic power is the only important thing, and you have to be 25% ahead of the president in that category.

(This is anecdotal from one game so let me know if I'm wrong. Never touch federations in SP. ew)
