The AI does pick it sometimes. Hasn't happened to me yet, this is just what I've seen in YouTube videos, and read about happening to players in this and other forums.

If I'm reading it right, the AI only considers taking this perk if they are either xenophobe, militarist or gestalt, own at least 10% of the galaxy and currently have taken less than 5 ascension perks.

Also they won't take it if there are already at least 2 other empires which took that perk.

I've had the Prikti or whatever they are called take it in one of my saves.

It didn't end well for them, some random AI empire nominated them as a galactic threat and the resolution passed.

It is working, the only bummer is that there is no popup for this (at least I haven't seen one) like the ones for the Great Khan or the endgame crisis, at some stage I realized I am at war (no idea how long already) and that it is a crisis war I only realized as one star system got blown up.

You get a notification about the new wargoal being available, they will also declare using these wargoals on you and if you diplomatically interact with them they are called crisis aspirant.

Also there are pop ups at different stages I believe (like when they get star eaters).

But if the ai takes the perk first and gets autodeclared as crisis after reaching menace level 5 and the player takes the perk afterwards he wont be declared as crisis after reaching level 5. Which means he can destroy the galaxy without the gal community lifting a finger.

Are you talking about a resolution of the automatic total war after reaching level 5?

I am pretty sure you can only have one galactic crisis at the same time (a friend used that in a MP game to declare an AE the crisis before doing his projects), but that still put him into a TW with the entire galaxy (except the AE I think).

So as far as I know the TW should still trigger and since you can even declare a non crisis empire a galactic crisis I think that's working as intended at the moment.

I found two purifier empires went crises last run. The necrophage one reached T5 around 2400+, it also lost many pops to me as UNE refugees. Two 40k cube is something at the start of mid game.

What kind of tech costs and planet modifier were you running?

2400 isn't really midgame under standard settings that's why I am asking. The Khan should spawn with much more by 2300 normally.


EDIT: also nice to see the AI going for it. I hope they do in my next game as well.

Nope - no total war triggered for me as crisis empire after total war against the ai, which took the perk sooner and reached menace 5 sooner triggered. And when i reached level 5 crisis the original ai crisis empire was long dead. No total war against the galaxy for me. I just blew up systems the unbidden had cleared and destroyed the galaxy without fighting a single war.
