What’s the trick to defeating the Ottoman Empire in In Nomine?

I'm sure it’s possible to actually beat them, but with their doom stacks they seem to be able to just crush any opposition. I've seen AI's beat them, but never as a player have I managed to do anything but white peace out with them .... What are the strategies I should be using?

I've tried with several different nations; Aragon, the Malumuks, etc. But mainly strategies to defeat them with the Malumuks, actually - As Aragon, I can just ignore them.

A strategy is to trap its army on one side of the Bosphorus and then blockade it, but with Anatolia being the bigger part might be troublesome.
Perhaps landing some stacks in Greece, force their armies there then move yours to the other side whilst blockadding (or wait till they are at war there)
Something that pops into my mind as well might be trapping them in Syria, but I dont think it gives good attrition, I never fight in that area, and the move around them trapping their armies there.

Only problem is I doubt Mamluk navy > Ottoman navy.

You are the Mamluks, the world's largest owner of deserts. Use it to your advantage: have a few soldiers at least stand by the border and let them scorch the earth when the ottomans come.
Because you have deserts, the Ottoman's armies will be extremely small and their war exhaustion high. Just kill 'em then and don't walk into this trap in their land.

I have only played 1 game in DW, as the Byz, and the way I beat the Ottos was to wait for a Horde to swat them and move in before they could rebuild. I thought I was in trouble as the Mamlukes dismantled the Timurids and Qara leaving the Ottos with no immediate enemies. But then the Ottos made a mistake annexing Silistria. This gave them a border with the Golden Horde. Fairly quickly 50,000+ GH troops marched across the border decimating the Turk armies. When the Turks were down below 5,000 troops I launched and occupied all the Asia Minor provinces and got 4 in the peace. I waited out the truce and then until the next GH war started for round 2. I did use the block the straights tactic as well in round two. It works well but the Mameluke fleet needs to be bulked up first.

Wait for a dogpile. Sooner or later, it'd be in a war with France/Austria/Bohemia/Castile/England. When that happens, a lot of Catholics will jump on the bandwagon. Unless you are vastly superior in military, never ever take on an undiminished Mamluk or Ottoman Empire by yourself.

I'll use attrition to my advantage then. My problem is that massive rebellions (Ethiopian Nationalists and Tureq Patriots mainly) pop up anytime I go to war - and the Jalayrids (spelling?) ally with the Ottomans and become a troublesome annoyance whenever I get into a war with the Ottos.

I'll go try these strategies.

Again, the easiest way is to wait for a dog-pile on OE. While you are waiting, you should take the opportunity to eat your way down the horn of Africa and into the Arabian peninsular.

So, I did this. But I didn't have much luck - In the first try, a War of Succession between Najd and Oman took place over me, with Oman winning and PUing me. Then, the second try a tribal succession crisis smashed me. The third time rebels managed to break the whole nation into little pieces after I got an endless line of stability dropping events.

So yeah, what should I do about the rebels that appear whenever I go to war? There isn’t really any way to cope with them without building an enormous army that goes over the force limit and bankrupts me.

Maybe you could create a huge alliance network, alliancing with Hungary and maybe a few other small sates, thus making it a multi pronged attack. And while I do agree that attrition is a great way to defeat their armies, why not just wait? Become their friend, and gather up strength by gobling up the many minors, and when you've gotten strong enough, defeat those bastards, make them pay for taking so much land from the Byzantine people!

First of all, good ol tactic of blockading the Bosphorus, take either landmass thats devoid of armies
If thats not possible, use the mountains in Mus and Imeretium to kill their armies, -5 for mountains is huuuuuuge bonus
If again its not possible, make them eat atrition on the deserts.
If all of the above is not viable... draw Austria into the war and pray

As England I use the trapping strategy a lot. Usually I get them to give up their conquests and vassals, which keeps them contained. Being busy with other matters I haven't really tried to go full at them.

Keep a big fleet handy.

If you can't even take on Oman, Najd, or deal with your own tribal succession crisis, then you can stop thinking about taking on the Ottoman Empire.

I took out Najd, but the problem is I only have an option to kill one or the other of them - When you get a War of Succession, you must choose who you want to help PU you. Sadly, you can't just go to war on both of the claimants.

IN NOMINE
There are no cascading alliances and no massive penalties for attackers (i think -2 is the max)
You have to either trap their army on one side of the bosphorus with your navy or better yet on the dardenelles or rhodes apart from that scorching is your next best strategy if you are near them. When they move off to another province try to get to the recently captured province and assualt it since it should have low troops defending

Apart from that just mass cavalry as your main force since cav is king in IN at the start
