Beams, Playstyle and buffs/nerfs.

I Stopped using beams around the time the game started getting dull from the abuse (probably around chapt 7 or so). Opon discontinuation i found myself amazed at all the awesome less boring combinations I could use.

shield+cold+water+lightning+fire AOE attack made the usual lightning ring but wetted enemies also.

water+cold+water+cold+Lightning+arcane+fire with held rightclick is insane dmg and fast to cast once in your muscle memory.

5x ice is always fun.

using the uncommon phoenix around a greased up area is more work than the usual OP things but very epic.

Try the game without arcane beams and you'll have a grand time. And don't cry about bosses Without beams since the only hard ones you can just lightning bolt spam. :p

Nerfs:

We the community should decide on one thing to nerf and one thing to buff. If the Developers agree with this we can then See some good changes that aren't too drastic.

I propose an Overall fire dmg and spread buff. Unarmored/non-immune enemies should have fire ignite them if they come in contact with a burning enemy/ally, Also If given over 500 fire based dmg in less than 4 seconds should be stunned for 2.

I Propose an overall beam based nerf. Beams have to be sustained for 3 seconds once started (makes badly started beams actually matter). Also Possibly reducing dmg on non armored units (this would make beams a bit more situational, used more for popping armor/bomb carriers).

I agree with this, except it needs to ignite allies too.

No beams aren't that great. It leaves you fairly immobile and it has only decent damage, while dealing damage to but one target. Also, in three seconds you could clear all the enemies with novas or other spells making beams rather worthless if this were to happen. This would also cause it to become a second Earth type of move (highly situational and overall not worth the effort), and we really don't need another one of those.
I don't see how you can justify a beam nerf, it's good at what it does (single target sustained damage) and not much else.

pretty sure it's the highest damage spell in the game
Highest single target, single cast damage dealing spell (assuming you get the full duration).
Arcane + Lightning + Ice nova still does more damage in the same amount of time (Sure you won't see the numbers add up to 34k on Vlad, but it clears things more quickly).

I'm pretty sure Vortex is the highest damage spell in the game. Of course if you want a non-magick example, Q + S + D, into a S + D + R combo, which can be pulled off almost instantly for around 2k damage and freezing all enemies it hits. Try to fight two yetis with the steam + lightning beam, it doesn't work - Even a QERA area combo would be more useful, especially since it can be cast through a buffed E shield.

Steam/Lightning/Arcane beam is good at what it does, which isn't particularly much (It also has to destroy things before actually dealing splash damage, which isn't very high).

Beams are strong, sure. They are easy to use too, but for all their versatility and efficiency using the right move at the right point is still going to create a faster more elegant play through.

I just tried a solo speed run, did the game in a little over an hour. Steam beams were used often, sure. But most of the time it was faster to use needles or some sort of AoE. I dont see why you would want to nerf the damage, as the only time its optimal is against high threat melee groups (and even then a talented wizard could needle them down faster).
