Hello fellow Stellaris community members,

I want to talk about something that isn't and shouldn't be the main focus of Stellaris but would undoubtedly put a huge beaming smile on my face and I'm sure on many others. At the moment we have ship designs for each of the six species groups, and from the ones I've seen, I like them a lot. I understand at this stage of development there is unlikely going to be any large changes to the game but what I propose hopefully will be simple enough to include later in a free update.

I would like for there to be a selection of colour schemes for each of the species ship designs. In a 32 player game I'd imagine the chances of coming across another race from the same species group to be a regular occurrence and it would be a shame if immersion was lost when you see them using identical ships. With the option of choosing various colour schemes for your species fleets I think this would go a long way to alleviating this problem.

Please feel free to comment and I'd like to know how many of you feel the same way.

This is something the devs themselves have spoke of, but we're getting awfully close to release date. I certainly do hope we get flag colors on our ships at some point.

I hate ship designing.

It is an endless loop of crushingly tedious micro that I am forced to do in spite of my feverant wish not to because every autodesigner that has ever existed in a game with a unit designer is clinically retarded and builds for you crippleware that is guaranteed to lose every battle.

By now I don't even hope "Stellaris will fix this", because it has gone unfixed in 4X for about 17 years and so hope leads only to disappointment.

You do realise that the ship designer looks incredibly simple, you slot in weapons and modules and thats basically it.
Its nothing like DW system were you have to balance everything or StarDrive Tetris puzzle

I have no interest in being dragged away from my freakish Pop genetic experiments every single Engineering tech to have to swap out "Lasers 2" for "Lasers 3" in the Virtual Duplo Simulator minigame.
At least if I have to re-jig component weights there's an element of challenge to it, rather than "Do this robotic makework for the fiftieth time this game, or your navy dies".

Think the thread was on the ship models, but in your case there is an auto design button, and an auto update toggle, just use those

Once you have the basic design down you just hit auto upgrade to swap out obsolete components for the newer versions, it stupidly simple

And if you read my first post you would know that there is exactly no chance that an autodesigner will work to produce viable ship designs. I guarantee it.

Yeah, one of the things I was hoping for with the Ship Designer was the ability to customize many different cosmetic aspects other than the components. I wouldn't like to pay to just customize the colour of my ships in DLC though.

And if you read my first post you would know that there is exactly no chance that an autodesigner will work to produce viable ship designs. I guarantee it.
You do realise that most 4x use some form of Ship Designer? And Stellaris has by far the most simple one; create basic template, click autoupgrade when you have accumulated enough upgrades and it just replaces components with the better version. Basically your stance seems to be built on pure Laziness...
If you hate Ship designing why play the genre?
Armada 2552 didnt use a ship designer that I know but still...

Watch the streams, they show that it takes approx 10 seconds at most to go into the menu and hit the auto update button

What I really would like tho is presentation of phenotype related ship designs. So I could think which one I want for the next few weeks.:)

I've played around with some pretty complex ship designers before, but given what I've seen on the stream, this will be a good fit for me.
Not too complex, but enough to provide some good depth.
Ship design is a not insignificant part of games like this so I suspect that there will be some DLC's or just patch updates that may add a bit more depth in the future.
