The Netherlands issued a colonial DOW on me in my current game. I quickly overran Indonesia, but only requested five provinces because I don't want to get too many provinces at +2BB each.

Well, after the war I check my badboy score and I had only paid 1BB per province. Now, I know that when *I* issue a colonial war provinces cost 2BB each. So this leads me to believe that the old defensive war BB reduction from EU2 might well be in VIC too - but defensive wars were you gain territory are so much rarer, obviously.

It's been a while but IIRC

You gained 2BB for a province taken in an offensive war (ie one you or your ally started). You gain only one BB for a province taken in a defensive war (one declared on you).

Yep. It could get a bit more confusing if seperate peaces were made though within alliances at war. IIRC, the country to make a seperate peace was then in an offensive war with any countries they were still at war with.

Is it because the Netherlands has cores in Indonesia? Maybe this changes things.

How so? I've never seen a BB reduction for taking someone else's national provinces.

Yeah, okay, maybe not. I was thinking maybe it made the system use the BB addition for annexing a prov in a great war. But that doesn't make sense, I guess.

However, if you get a reduced BB for taking provs when you get attacked, then if you're attacked for BB...you get more provs at less BB...which is strange. Though it does make sense...if you win the BB war, you're a just liberator continuing the struggle.

To the victor go the history books!

Nor have I. I don't think the cores should make a difference, unless, possible, they're your cores.

yeah, you're right...i was just confued as per my last post: if you get less just b/c the war is defensive...then you can get more provs for less BB...if you get a BB war declared on you.

The idea is that you should get penalize more if you are the agressor. IE. don't look at it as a reduction of BB, but as penalty for being the agressor. It is a bit logical if you think about how the rest of the nations see you.

Right, but a BB war should be different. It's the nations of the world standing up against your longstanding aggression.

e.g. T'was GB that DoW on Hitler, not the other way around.
