I'm doing a Bavaria game as well. I think I'm into the 1560's and I'm nowhere near forming Germany yet. All of the little states have alliances with big powers who I don't want to mess with. I had Emperor for a long time but in all my wisdom decided to switch to Protestant, and now I'll probably never get HRE back. Bohemia has a vassal, there's 2 electors that are reformed, I have Alsace as a vassal, only one voting for me.

If you don't already have it, take Unam Sanctum as your next (5th?) idea. Then convert the electors by force until you have a majority again. That NI also gives holy war against all heathens, so it's likely worth getting in spite of the papal influence being completely useless for you.

The good thing about the electors is that they're small enough for you to force-convert and vassalize in one war if you wish to go that route. Force conversion is 50% while vassalization of small HRE states is usually 30-40%.

I will definitely try that, thanks. Now the only problem is trying to work around the tangled web of alliances and guarantees. Trier is allied with France, Bohemia AND Austria. Cologne, Saxony is allied with Hansa (who has grown pretty big in this one), Bohemia has one of the electors as a vassal and I think Milan has vassalized Baden.

I really dropped the ball in the early game on trying to lock up the electors, oh well. Just going to take a little longer I suppose.

Disregard that last question, lol. For some reason at first it wasn't giving me the option for "Cleanse Heresy" so I just skipped time forward some and it worked.
