Batumi is a nice (black)seaside city in Georgia; I went there last year and I like it, I found a very well done map of the city on the workshop and I used it.
First of all, an aerial view of the city I took a few days ago...
.
The city itself is growing in a quite ordered way, we had some traffic problems until the central bypass was opened (below you can find a photo of it).
Aside from roads Batumi developed an extensive transport system since the very beginning, initially it was made up by bus, then, using the cross-rail city service; we have infact a railway going from a side to another of the map, being the city developed along that we started at the beginning with two stations in order to grow more and more afterwards...
At the peak the cross city railway had around 8 stations and served the whole city and, the more the City was growing, the more the tracks were put underground.
Below you can find the pictures of some of the stations.
The cross-city rail was for years connected to the intercity and freight line, at a certain point it became very congested so we had to create a city bypass for intercity and freight and keep the local trains on a dedicated line.
That was also the beginning of the end of the cross city rail as fundamental infrastructure because, in the meantime, the new underground service (BMR) was inaugurated and most of the traffic ended up there.
Below a photo of the Central Bus Station with BMR service.
The city is also served by two airports, one for long range and feeder flights, the other for medium-short range; they are both connected by the cross-city rail service and the international one is also served by the BMR.
Landing in the smaller airport; you can see a portion of the city bypass highway.
Short final, end station of the cross city rail right outside the airport.
