Sorry, but it’s all fun and games to me and my daughters. But then now that you’ve pointed it out, those “fun and games” are an unexpected and unlooked-for but very real luxury that at least I can now better appreciate. Thank you Hatchy. :bow: : )

I’ve got to do a better job when registration opens this year.

The only other time I attended a gaming convention was the 2017 GENCON. I got every single Axis and Allies Event I wanted but struck out on way too many Catalyst@Jade_Rook, got any advice and 4day-time-management-tips for me?

I thought I had responded to this already.

If you want to get in True Dungeon, make sure you sign up the first day the event registration opens. There are several other events which also sell out quickly, like miniature painting. The common RPGs can also go quickly.

Leave yourself some time to breathe between events. There is a lot to do, but it will be more fun if you aren't rushed. This includes leaving a break for lunch. Personal care is an important part of getting the most out of the con.

Bring water. There are some water fountains around, but they aren't as convenient as having a water bottle with you and you don't want to get dehydrated.

The vendor hall can easily fill a single day. Last year I gave it about half of Thursday plus Sunday, which was about right for me. I am thinking of doing all day Thursday/Sunday for the hall this year. Sunday is the best day for actual shopping, but some things will sell out. If there is something you really want to buy, make time for it early Thursday.

The Battletech Grinder is a great way to fill some time with classic BT action. I generally always grab 2 slots (4 hours) there.

Beyond that, it depends on what you want to do.

I did some research with a new friend, an artist of great skill as it turns out, and I am now on the lookout for the following Miniature Painting Sessions at GENCON:

Angel Giraldez
Aaron Lovejoy
Elizabeth Beckley
CK Studios (Caleb and Vince)

I won’t be able to hit all four, but it gives me a list to start with and I’ll let their individual Event write-ups decide the matter for me. : )

I’ll also be signing up for Catalyst’s Masters and Minions... with Mitch purchasing a GEMCON Badge it is my hope Mitch will be participating in BattleTech Masters and Minions this year. : )


On the publicity item front, Vistaprint came through with both the following Works of Mech Art (which I’ve already begun to distribute here in Eastern and Central PA as well as an update run of my own business cards.



And lastly @SpOoKy777 is working his artistic genus and has begun assembling the palette of Big Stompy Goodness from which this uniquely BATTLETECH Work of Mech Art will spring.

This Print will incorporate portions of three Mechs, Victoria’s King Crab, Kamea’s Atlas and the Player’s Highlander. Here are the pre-composition stagings of associated Mech Data. I coordinated with SpOoKy777 to share this, his process as he crafts my BATTLETECH2020 commissioned Work of Mech Art:



I asked SpOoKy to go with SLDF colors for the Highlander, and of course Kamea’s and Victoria’s official in-game paints and patterns, Paradox/HBS has blessed off on this Work of Mech Art celebrating a moment in time of the Campaign Finale Mission.

SpOoKy will craft various “Work-in-Progress” stages of completion for this Work of Mech Art... I’ll be highlighting each here and referring any who would care to follow up, to SpOoKy’s Patreon Account for an even better appreciation and a level of participation and insight into SpOoKy’s Art process. : )

Meeting yourself and your Better Half was one of the highlights of GENCON 2017 for me. :bow: I had hoped to introduce you both to my daughters this year, but alas family obligations are truly unavoidable.

Here’s to hoping conflicts resolve, and options present themselves. : )

Work continues on the BATTLETECH Campaign Finale Work of Mech Art, SpOoKy777 is decisively engaged on this an many other items of work.

I am working with @CWolfs, @OathOfFealty, @Grayson Marik and of course @bloodydoves to determine the extent to which @bloodydoves Clan Mod Pack supports Clan-v-Clan and Clan-v-IS Multiplayer Challonge Tournament, League Play and GENCON2020 BATTLETECH2020 Event Support.

it is my intent to help ensure bd’s Clan Mod Pack is a centerpiece of BATTLETECH Multiplayer moving forward to BATTLETECH2020.


And lastly, does anyone have any Star Wars Armada advice? I am looking at getting involved in some Armada play at GENCON and want to ramp up as quickly and efficiently as I can in the months ahead.

@SpOoKy777 has completed the first bare rendering of the Work of Mech I commissioned for GENCON2020. He has the composition spot on and will be adding textures, atmosphere, battle damage and Victoria’s Fabulously Fiery +++Flamers and her IIRC “Blood and Steel” Special Ability. : )

But here is the Evernote I shared with HBS/Paradox to gain their permission as well as with SpOoKy777 to get him started:

“BattleMech Combat is taking place in a torrential swirl and whirl of Smoke, Fire, and Mountains fo Metals. Within this particular maelstrom, the fate of the Aurigan Reach is at stake as High Lady Kamea Arano in her Atlas II confronts her Nemesis and Cousin, Victoria in her King Crab.

Three BattleMechs are caught in a frozen moment of time. Nearest the viewer on the bottom right of the frame is a prone Highlander, only its Head and upper chest clearly visible. The remainder is out of frame to the right. The Highlander’s Center Torso is clearly destroyed with fires and lightning rage in the pit where its engine and gyro used to be. Crawling out of a hatch on the Highlander’s Head onto its Armored Cowl is its MechWarrior (the any-person Player of BATTLETECH). Thin, bald, with something like one of the below MechWarrior uniforms on, facing away from the viewer and staring intently upward at the confrontation between Kamea and Victoria.



The Atlas (Center Stage and somewhat facing Left) has clearly taken the worse of the punishment thus far, it’s House Arano Crest clearly visible on its Left Shoulder. With its Left Arm missing above the Elbow and Damage pitting and cratering it’s Armor, it’s LRM20 is smashed, sparking and trailing plumes of noxious smoke. But it’s AC20 and SRM6 are firing away and it’s Head is nearly pristine as it maneuvers to its right.

And (Stage Left, facing to the Right) is Victoria in her King Crab. Decked out in Directorate Regalia and Crests, the King Crab has been pitted, scarred and slashed in its battle with Kamea’s Atlas. It’s posture is hyper aggressive, Head down, body arching upward as it trails back toward the Legs. The King Crab is walking to its right and toward the viewer, both its Autocannons have smoke trailing away from the mussels, having just been fired moments before.

And while there is a moderate level of damage inflicted on the King Crab, nothing approaches the severity of the Atlas’ lost Arm... except for a grievous wound to the King Crabs Cockpit Area. One can clearly see that the Cockpit is Breached... and almost but not quite, see a sweep of Victoria’s trademark White Hair, even at this great a distance.



So it is really that frozen moment in time I am proposing.
Complete Artistic License will be granted to SpOoKy777 as any particular element above or even the overall composition, “just might work better another way.” I have been a fan and Patreon supporter of SpOoKy777’s for years now and trust him in this implicitly to craft the best work of Big and Stompy Mech Art possible from what I describe above,

With my trip to Harebrained Schemes now complete and my return from 20-States in 20-Days with 7512-miles “in the books”, my thoughts turn to GENCON2020 and the likelihood that it too may eventually be cancelled.

If it is cancelled, I will bring BATTLETECH2020 to Friday Night Fights (FNF) and run a 96-hours of GENCON2020 FNF Event, with select portions Live-streamed via Twitch.

And yes, I just checked to see if I paid more for a refundable Hotel Reservation. :shrug: Against type, I did.


More to follow if a GENCON2020 cancellation does prove to be in the offing...

I have withdrawn my GENCON Event submission.

GENCON forwarded me a revised set of Internet ServIce Provider costs for the Indian Convention Center. These costs, plus the cost for a power drop proved excessive, especially since I was not going to be passing any costs on to participants.

As of now it appears GENCON2020 is still a “Go.”

With the Event Catalog and Event Registration delayed, GENCON buys time to better determine how well some of the bellwether States and Events proceed and progress in these next few weeks. Can safety be maintained? Are there instances of Infection Rates ramping back up?

To me this is all a sign of just how much thought, deliberation and care the officials at GENCON are investing into their decisions. Even though my Event will not go forward given the high costs involved, I still have my and my daughter’s tickets and hotel reservations... though I must be clear here, even should GENCON decide to move forward with the convention, I’ll be making my own decisions with regard to my daughter’s safety. This should surprise no one, and I am sure I am not alone in weighing the risks involved.

Thus even though I had planned to run this BATTLETECH Multiplayer Event at GENCON2020, this will not now be possible. Also of note, according to yesterday’s announcement from GENCON, this years Event Catalog and Event Registration is delayed. This buys time for GENCON Officials to better assess current moves to reopen States and move toward larger scale Events. Whether such a large Event as GENCON (in past years more than 70,000 participants during the course of the convention had become the norm) is likely to go forward is debatable. Even if it does go forward, ticket holders like my own family will have their own decisions to make and risks to weigh.”
