The problem in this case is that the UTC system would break down immediately when crossing borders, if you were to implement it in China, mostly because UTC makes the assumption of time zones being delineated by longitude, and not by nation lines.
No, UTC does not assume time zones at all. Time zones are often expressed by how they deviate from UTC but UTC is not a time zone nor does it include them. Everywhere is the same time, there are no adjustments. The adjustments are an artifact of describing time zones in terms of UTC. No time zones, no adjustments.

Well also there's the whole farming industry which is based more on sunlight. They would rarely use a universal time.
Large scale farms in the developed world are already shifting over to UTC in a subtle way because they are using GPS. Also, farmers regularly work before dawn - it is a rough job. They also are already more aware than most about the changing daylight time as the year progresses.

Okay, I probably wasn't clear about it, but the fact of the matter is that removing the ability to optimize time to a nation's particular interests (in favor of a universal system) is not going to fly for tightly controlled economies. Since timezones predate the world wide web (where there literally is only one authority for assignment of public ips), I find it difficult to think that nations would give up that privilege until there is a unification under one centralized global government (where you would need to have the government apparatus operate under one defined time measurement, simply to reduce the amount of translation bureaucracy within the government). Which, I don't believe that to be happening anytime soon.

Unfortunately some of us will arrive later.
That is the will of GOG

Wait, do we have any explanation as to why GOG is dropping five full hours after Steam?

So, dumb question. I backed the Kickstarter and had access to the beta on Steam. Am I good to go for release day? Did I miss any emails or sites to register on so that come 24 April the game will be ready for me to download? Looking at it on Steam now, there's no indication that I own the game like I've seen with the few other games I've pre-ordered, where the game is shown in my library or I get a message that I already own the title.

There will be a kick starter announcement first.
Then key releases to Backer Kit that you will enter into steam.

Basically just make sure you have access to the email that you used for the Kickstarter or to sign in with BackerKit. You'll get an email announcement that keys are going out, and then BackerKit will probably send out its own automated email saying that "new rewards are available" or something like that, and then you log into BackerKit and grab the key.

This is all supposed to happen a day or two before launch, so Sunday or Monday. That ought to give us enough time to pre-download the game so when it unlocks at 9am PDT on Tuesday you can just download the small remaining portion and then you're off to the races.

In Canada they use a mix of imperial and metric measurements out of convenience and that is fine. The transition does not have to be dictated or painful. Just encourage people to use the new system where it is convenient to do so and the resistance will be relatively mild and tolerated.
I was in grade 6 at the time Canada went metric. My math teacher told our class that I had used a swear word... yardstick! He then went on to tell us Canada was now a metric nation and the yardstick was from now on to be refered to as a meterstick!

Did... did your math teacher know that yards and meters are actually different lengths? That seems somewhat important for a math teacher to know.

No he did not! It was much later that I realized that a yardstick was actually shorter than a meter!

As a Londoner I have no problems with using a universal time (maybe UTC?) :p

In the UK you'll find spirits are sold by the 25ml measure. Beer is ordered by the pint, and you get a pint. But you want to order a proper beer, none of that lager rubbish - it needs to have flavour :D
That's cause even you Pomms have moved to Metric.... I think its Burma, Liberia and the USA who are the only countries that haven't adopted it..... o_O

As a point of Interest, you can still buy a Pint in Australia. You can also get Schooners, middy's and Pots, of course it depends roughly on where you.
Most of Australia considers a Schooner 425ml and a Pint 570ml... Cept Adelaide... for some reason their schooner is 285ml and a pint is 425ml and the IMPERIAL Pint is 570ml.
Now a 285ml drink in Australia is a bit more confusing in Melbourne and Brisbane its a Pot, Canberra Perth and Sydney its a Middy (or sometimes a half pint), and of course the aforementioned weirdness of Adelaide calling it a schooner.
Oh and if you are in Hobart, a middy/pot could also be known as a 10, and a schooner a 15, as in 10 and 15 ounces.
Of course then you have the bottles.
A stubby or can is 375ml (usually) and a Tallie is 750ml,

Of course the most important measurement is the NIP, which the real drinkers use.... 30ml of spirits...

And as always Drink responsibly :D

Yeah, the problem with you Aussies isn't the size of the measurement, it's the......let's call it liquid, that you're ordering.

I'm so torn... the patriotic part of me wants to trash the weirdly warm beer tendencies of the crazy brits..... but the Spirit drinking part of me keeps saying "He's right, of course all beer is swill"

I'll just sustain myself with the thrashing we gave you in the Commonwealth games (Though I do feel it necessary to apologise for the atrocious closing ceremony and the only mildly better opening ceremony)
