One line summary of your issue
Unplayable With Constant Crashing Every 5-20 Minutes

Please explain your issue is in as much detail as possible.
Game is unplayable. It crashes during gameplay within 5-20 minutes. Should I ever tab out and have the game in the background, I have a bsod within minutes WHY!?. I have reproduced this three times. FML.

I crashed at the opening campaign cutscene, at the first tutorial level loading screen, during the tutorial, after the tutorial, the scene where you get rescued by the mercenary group, and at the second mission three years later.

I've tried turning Steam overlay off. No effects. Vsync on/off, Windowed/Fullscreen. Nada.
Oh and why is this game chugging with a R5 2600x and gtx 1070? I'm averaging less than 45 fps and as low into single digits at 1440p high settings.

I have the latest nvidia drivers, even did a clean install after seeing the intro cutscene flash black and white once.

Steps to reproduce the issue
Just play the game longer than five minutes.

Can't confirm that. Still crashes every couple of minutes.
Rumours say that Battletech hasn't been optimized for AMD CPUs...but however, lets hope, that there will be a patch SOON which solves this issue.

Update:
Did a clean install of Battletech. So far I haven't crashed in more than 1.5 hours in game. There must have been something messy with the pre-load. Still has performance hickups though.

I have similar issues, but have half a fix for you, although you may have to restart the game every 3-4 hours.

If you have 16gb RAM set your windows page file size to 'no page file'. If you have 8gb or less set the page file size to something way overkill ike 20,000 mb. You can change it back if you need the hdd space later. Setting it to no page file can result in client crashes if you have insufficent RAM when loading a battle, thankfully it autosaves just before there.

The problem appears to be the page file getting full and cleaned out constantly by Unity, to the point the game starts choking and skipping.

No page file seems to have improved the game performance as I've noticed fewer fps drops. Fortunately I haven't had a game crash in 6+ hours now. So my reinstall was the solution for my main issue. As for the bsod, I rolled back to 391.35 after and that hasn't cause anymore system crashes in games and watching videos online.

Update: Nevermind, I'm crashing several times per mission again. -_-
Just finished entering the Argo with my mechs and 15 minutes of progress wasted.

Update2: I have no clue anymore. Clean game and gpu drivers reinstall still causing game crashes and a worst, bsods.

Update3: I have some clues now. Ryzen Balance power profile may have been my windows crashing culprit. It's fine with other games. Cities Skylines, Ghost Recon Wildlands, and Hearts of Iron 4 were all fine. But this game... this game ugh. Went back to the latest nvidia 397.31 as 391.35 had the bsods too. So drivers weren't the issue.

The game is fine when doing non story contracts. However, these damn story missions love to crash over and over. It's especially insulting when the story mission completes and crashes and you realized you haven't save for the past 15 minutes. Then it also kicks you in the nuts when you get to the story's post mission report screen and crashes there too. And crashes again when you get to load into the post mission report and hit next. Crash again.

I'm 20 hours in as Steam tells me and just finished First Strike. The mission, not the post mission report. If [Post Mission Report Crashes] are the first of the big boss to take down of this story arc, then I'm seriously disappointed. [Pre-Tutorial Cutscene Crashes] were way better. Hell [Map Tutorial Crashes] were more exciting as I was kept at the edge of my seat.

I've also noticed large fps discrepancies between plain maps with nothing but rocks and wind where I actually get mostly 60 fps and dip to the low 50s occasionally to those with trees and buildings where it doesn't go past 45 fps. Nothing in this game looks to have any kind of ultra quality textures or tessellation or proper shadows... Our own mechs doesn't even have that much detail.

Here's another crash dump. There's many more, but this one is the latest. I think I'll hold off playing for awhile till I see the first big patch.

The game uses other applications DLL and codec services for its cutscenes and audio. so if you have VLC codecs..ensure they're updated...some even for networking services...my game was using Apple Bonjour for some insane reason.

Its actively accessing the system32 folder and other application folders to do this (hence access violations)

From your output log...a file the game was accessing:

C:\Program Files (x86)\RivaTuner Statistics Server\RTSSHooks64.dll:RTSSHooks64.dll (0000000180000000), size: 2449408 (result: 0), SymType: '-exported-', PDB: 'C:\Program Files (x86)\RivaTuner Statistics Server\RTSSHooks64.dll'

Why its accessing your overclock software...??? is beyond me.

Tried the opt in beta patch yet? For me it seems to have removed the slow loading and animation stuttering.

Going to get a good few hours in tonight and see if it gets slow again - was looking good yesterday though.

I have MSI Afterburner in the background monitoring what's happening with my gpu temperature. Heard of some people having hardware damage from 100% gpu utilization. Fortunately I don't have that issue. High usage, but temps are below 65°C.

Thanks! Didn't know of the public beta patch.

RivaTuner is not MSI afterburner. its accessing all of your system32 dlls and picking which it thinks it "needs" to run. Sometimes causing Access violations because the dlls it picks require admin rights, or another program to open in order to operate.

Edit: just looked up RivaTuner. Tried disabling that? Last stable is back in 2009, so its pretty suspect.

This is a strange one, if its story contract specific it most likely is to do with playing the media like you suspect.

If you have windows UAC on, you could whitelist the game exe file to check if its responsible. I assume you run it as admin already and have updated your video codecs.

Thats the only culprit I can think of that will cause a straight crash for an access violation, sorry. :(

Its not exactly strange, its lazy programming. There weren't specifics laid out in the dependencies of the game. You would have to whitelist the game, and even then it would violate access when trying to open say....an overclocking program like EVGA PrecisionX or MSI Afterburner...its a crapshoot

Windows DEP (Data Execution Prevention) is catching these errors, because they normally come from viruses or malware.

Cheers mate! The game is now playable for me.

No ryme or reason to these issues. People report flawless play on potstoes and unplayable hanga on top line gaming rigs.

One thene does seem to link most issues (mine included) in that the game does not seem to like AMD

well there isnt much you can do . cause there is a massive data leak . no mater how low your settings or what you change it will eventually crash . if you really wannna have some fun open your resource manager through your task manager before you start the game and watch your memory skyrocket .

My game was running perfectly fine prior to the latest update. On the new patch I haven't been able to complete one mission because of the amount of crashes occurring. It isn't that the game just crashes, my whole computer locks up and makes a very loud crackling sound through the speakers. As far as I know it is not generating crash logs.

I am running an AMD FX-8300 with 16GB RAM & a Radeon R7 370. Drivers are all up to date. Not top of the line but was more than enough to handle 40+ hours of the game before the update without any hitches. I came across a thread mentioning of using the options -force-glcore to run the game. Tried that and all be it, it felt it took longer for the game to crash it happened the same. I was watching task manager and nothing spiked to 100%.

Any advice?

Edit 1: I thought it had been fixed by re-installing the game. I finished the mission then quit and saved. Came back to continue but for whatever reason it loaded the last save in the mission ..ok, tried to finish the mission again and bam freezing again.

I've also ran every diagnostic windows has plus steam and memtest outside any operating system. Would love a hotfix to come out of HBS in the next couple of days.

Edit 2: Loaded the save after the mission and computer rebooted, at least it didn't make those weird sounds again.
