Escort missions are fundamentally broken

Please explain your issue is in as much detail as possible.
The text says that the vehicles will stay close to your mechs. After three escort missions, I have never seen the vehicles to stay anywhere near close to my mechs (bug #1). They always move on a beeline to their goal, at their full movement rate. This usually gets them out ahead of my mechs, and in each of the three escort scenarios I played, there would be a surprise unit pop up and kill at least one of the escort units, killing off my bonus. Even if I move three of my mechs to the area where the surprise attack comes from, the mechs / vehicles of the surprise attack are NOT spotted ahead of time, and this is a glaring bug (bug #2). Mechs / vehicles can't just pop up out of nowhere, they have to come from somewhere and be detectable at range, so this kind of surprise attack is totally wrong and invalid.

The obvious solution for this is to 1) put the escort vehicles directly under player control, so to keep them truly guarded and to make sure they take cover if fired upon, and 2) to make any last-minute ambushers spawn away from the ambush area, forcing them to make their way to the ambush zone, and allow them to be spotted at distance. There are no cloaking mechs in Battletech, so surprise attacks should not be possible except in areas of zero visibility (and certainly not in flat, open terrain with clear weather).

Steps to reproduce the issue
Play an escort mission.

1. Line up all your mechs at the staging area for the escort run. Watch the vehicles beeline for the evac point, then brace all your mechs. The escorts will keep moving, and you won't.

2. Near the evac point, notice one of the vehicles noticeably lagging behind - it'll be the one forcing vehicles to stand still for a turn while getting them all shot at and killed.
