Hello fellow Mechwarriors!

Back in 2016, when HoI4 was about to get released, a fellow Forumite opened a Countdown Thread like this. The idea was to post every day something interesting out of the lore of the game which corresponded with the amount of days until release.

Example: On the 28th day before release one might write something from the year 3028, the 28th day of a specific month, the 28th Regiment of X or anything with a 28 in it. Pictures are welcome.

I will actualize the amount of remaining days in the thread title properly. I hope, we will have some fun and shorten the waiting time with this. :)

It is D-Day!!!

In the year 2028, scientists of the Western Alliance (at that time roughly NATO + European Union + Russia) reported to the Parliament about a project for deep space exploration with unmanned probes, since the now available fusion engine made such a project realistic. The goal of the project was to find planets fit for human colonization.

One year later the parliament approved such a plan and the Magellan Program was born. Between 2030 and 2035 a total of eight probes were started from Crippen Station, the first industrial station in Earth Orbit.

Out of these eight probes one was lost in space (Magellan 6) and four failed to make discoveries (Magellan 2, 3, 7, 8). The other three eventually found Tau Ceti (Magellan 1, after a voyage of 24 years), Epsilon Eridani (Magellan 4) and Epsilon Indi (Magellan 5).

The first manned exploration ship, the TAS Pathfinder, found Magellan 1 on the surface of Tau Ceti IV in 2108.

In August 3028, Hanse Davion married Milissa Steiner on Earth (Terra). During the reception he offered a toast that signaled the start of the Fourth Sucession War.

Hatamoto-Chi HTM-28T, Hatamoto-Chi HTM-28T Shin, and Hatamoto-Chi HTM-28Tr are the only three 'Mech variants with the number 28 in their name or model.
That's out of 3,366 'Mech variants across all eras according to the Master Unit List.

If possible it would be cool if we stuck to events that occurred before 3025, since that is when the game is set and things that happen after don't really bear any relevance at this point? We can save them for the next game!

28 years ago, I was playing Crescent Hawks’s Inception.

Little did I know how long I would have to wait for the next turn based Battletech game.

In 2752, the Star League Council repealed the Council Edict of 2650, which limited the forces of the great five Houses. In the aftermath, all Houses significantly increased their forces. One of the numerous new units was the 27th Dieron Regulars Regiment in the Draconis Combine.

Dieronregulars.jpg

It was formed in 2783 and consisted of personnel of various former units of the Star League Defense Forces.

It was stationed in Ashio and was not part of any famous operation during the Succession Wars. In the aftermath of the Battle of Misery it got a few Officers from the 8th Sword of Light, which had fought versus Wolf`s Dragoons.

In 3050, the Commanding Officer was Tai-sa Jasick Yoshiro. The unit was sent to Soverzene in order to face the 12th Bear Chevaliers of Clan Ghost Bear. Despite valiant fighting, the Regiment was caught off-guard someday in October and in the folowing night battle most of the unit was destroyed. A few survivors managed to escape, but the Regiment was not re-established.

"Our victories here have proved the rightness of the Way of the Clans; let it always be so among those of the True Faith. Let these few words always announce our coming and portend our victory."

Victor_Steiner-Davion.jpg

A lot can be (and has been) said about Victor Steiner-Davion. Son to Hanse Davion and Melissa Arthur Steiner, he was Heir to the Federated Commonwealth, the one superpower which was the result of the Alliance of the two major Houses.

He witnessed the Clan Invasion, the violent deaths of his Mother and his brother Arthur and, eventually, the coup by his sister Katherine, which led to the FedCom Civil War. After the war, he retired from the throne, installing his siblings Peter and Yvonne to lead the Commonwealth respectively the Federated Suns.

He went to Terra and ComStar, where he witnessed the downfall of the second Star League, tried to help in the war versus the Word of Blake during the Jihad, advocated the foundation of the Republic and, already 100 years old, offered his help during the Blackout of 3132.

The Blackout threw the known Universe into the Dark Age. Some Republican Senators tried to overthrow the Republican Government. When they learned, that Victor knew about their plot, they decided to remove him. And so he was assassinated in El Paso on 26th November 3134, age 104.

In 3025, after a duration of 159 years, the Third Succession War came to an end.

In 2863, after the severe Destructions and loss of Technology during the first two Succession Wars, there were attempts to broker a stable peace. But a seven week long summit on Terra in 2864 ended without result. The following two years saw an unstable truce, that could result in new combat operations anytime. One party interested in this to happen was ComStar, operator of the HPG network and keeper of the old Star League Technology, which was now mostly lost (hence it was called LosTech) in the rest of the Inner Sphere. Fearing that a long peace would lead to technological progress and the loss of its own technological advantage, ComStar successfully manipulated the Draconis Combine and in 2866 the war started again along the Combine / Commonwealth border.

The war was fought longer, but less intense than the first two. All major Houses had less resources to spend and all of them feared a further technological decline. Hence some rules of engagement were established concerning for example the protection of civilians and industrial facilities. Additionally it was agreed, that Jump Ships were excempt from any attacks, since no House had the possibility to replace them in significant numbers.

After almost 150 years of constant warfare, Archon Katrina Steiner made peace proposals toward all other Houses in 3020. She had a lot of reasons, since the Lyran Commonwealth was one of the two losers of the war, since it had to cede many worlds to the Combine and a few more to the Free Worlds League during the war. Neither House reacted, except the Federated Suns, which was the major winner of the war, having gained a large amount of worlds from the Combine and the Capellan Federation. In 3022 the FedCom Accords were signed, turning these Houses into Allies.

The other three Houses, faced with the possibility of a FedCom superpower, quickly signed the Concord of Kapteyn in late 3022 (which came into effect as of 3024) in order to end hostilities between them and encourage mutual defense and technological exchange. This proved to be difficult, since the Free Worlds League had seized some Capellan Worlds during the war and the two Houses would continue to raid each other in the future.

The Capellan Confederation, having steadily lost worlds to the Federated Suns and the Free Worlds League in the last three wars, was now the smallest of the five major realms in the Inner Sphere. Along its rimward (southern) border it had to give up several worlds and in this vacuum the Aurigan Coalition was formed, which would see a coup by House Espinosa to dethrone House Arano at the end of the Third Succession War.
