Do we know if this is a bug yet, or if it's an undocumented graphical "improvement" (ye gods I hope not). Not sure if everyone is seeing this but either haven't noticed (ie they came back to the game after a long while not playing) or they prefer it this way.

Be nice if we could get a heads up if things are working as intended by the Devs, or if this is an actual issue?

Somebody on reddit said they don't have this issue with a fully updated GOG version of the game. Does everybody here have the Steam version?

Also I'd say it's an issue one way or the other, because a lot of people don't like whatever they did if it's not a bug.

If it was for performance, cool, make it a graphics option for people that need it, because I had no problems with performance before.

Not sure if it's related, but gamma and reds seem to be messed up in urban day-time maps as well:
View attachment 527947
Whites and/or lights do seem a bit shiny on Urban, but I'm not sure if I'm just not used to it anymore.

Back to topic:

What platform are you running the game on?
GoG

What operating system do you use?
Windows 10 Pro 64 bit 1903
Which version of the game are you running?
1.8.0-629R + Season Pass
What DLC do you have installed?
Shadowhawk Pack (anything from Kickstarter), Flashpoint, Urban Warfare, Heavy Metal

Please explain your issue is in as much detail as possible.
Post update 1.8 / Heavy Metal the graphics for missle smoke trails suddenly look really bad (greyish and like in a 10+ year old game). Was on "high" effects before, had bug, changed to "ultra", same bug, changed back, same bug.
Have you tried verifying your files?
No

Steps to reproduce the issue
Fire ze Missiles!?
With a Radeon RX580, Driver 19.8.1 and rest of graphics settings on ultra.

The weather/daylight settings make colours relative. Example: I've seen white look green on some map weather/daylight combos until the unit steps into a lightbeam.

I'd like to chime in - I have a GTX 1060 6GB with NVIDIA 441.20 driver, Ryzen 1700, 32 GB DDR4 RAM. Did not see these strange smoke trails before the update that came with Heavy Metal, but after that drop the smoke trails look the same as previous posts on this thread show. I did purchase and install the Urban Warfare, Flashpoint, and Heavy Metal DLCs simultaneously with this update. I own and play the game through Steam.

I have this same issue (see the pictures from the original poster). Missile trails with huge, artificial looking smoke plumes (and indirect fire no longer seems to arc the missiles the way it used to).

Running on Steam, Windows 10.

RTX 2080 ti, graphics settings on ultra

I have the season pass installed.

Got some feedback on the Steam forums that not everyone is seeing this, so it looks like it's a bug indeed :(

Have tried messing around with the quality settings, but I'm still seeing the "wonky" contrails (also forgot to mention NOT running any Mods with the game).
