Yeah, Kriegsmarine have ( on my mind ) better leaders: It is more easy have a Grand Admiral with decent skill with Germany that with UK. The way of Commerce Raider Doctrine it´s "better" on my mind to surface combat: My fleet ( a stack of the initial kriegsmarine, about 17/18 units, no CV, little researching on doctrines ) has simply won all battles, no matter time, enemies, position....Even when I found a fleet with several CVs ( 2 or 3 ) I manage to close range to sink everybody with VERY little losses ( I think I have sink 1/2 DDs )...

Poor IA Naval Powers....they are simply ANOTHER puching ball....

The biggest things I've noticed for sub battles is number of ships/subs on each side, whether it's night or day, and whether it's raining if there's CVs involved. I'm sure leader skill matters but it's not enough to overpower a fleet 4x the size during the day...

I wanted to get some skill upgrades for my sub commanders so I start out by using 3 fleets of 6 subs. Once each gets to skill 5 (6 for Donitz) I promote them and give them 12 subs, then wait for another skill up and promote again. I haven't seen the need for more than 18 subs per fleet yet, but maybe the US will change my mind. Donitz with 30 subs would be scary...

I lose a lot of subs when I'm doing 6 sub fleets but my leaders gain xp really fast. If you retreat when you get caught during the day you won't lose nearly as many subs but I figure the AI needs that handicap so I don't ever retreat.
