One thing I really miss in this is front coverage (as in HOI3) and reserve in battles in the provinces.

Isn´t this simulated by the decreasing combat effect of too many forces? Those "slots" don´t make much sense when you look at the size of the provinces. In HOI 3 they are smaller than in AoD, so AoD-provinces actually do provide enough space for battles of several divisions. Flank attacks are represented by combat modifiers. And finally there´s the defense support that´s supposed to work as bringing forward some "reserve" units. No need to copy HOI 3 mechanics IMO.

I agree with the previous poster. AoD should not (and won't apparently) emulate HoI3. After reading the DDs it seems like the combat systems should work extremely well. These comments about copying HoI3 mechanics seem strange to me since almost nothing in HoI3 works particularly well in that game and the great the changes made to the basic code the greater the likelihood of AoD turning into some bug ridden fiasco. Of hand I'd say I feel confident that AoD should deliver about 90% of what I want in a WWII grand strategy game.

Of course there are allways a frontage cover for provinces so, yes they could copy the HOI3 system on that, its a good system and it should even work better with big provinces.
You could have front line and reserve units in the same province depending of how big frontage there is. When battles rage the commander should, with some chance, rotate the units/divisions or bring reinforcement forward to the front line so the best units is at the front and weakened units can resting behind the front line. Its a huge better system also when reinforcement units arrive from other provinces, its not realistic they are in the frontline directly they arrive, they should wait in the reserve slot until the commander let them forward to the front line or rotate them with weaker units. This will give you a more realistic way to handle the battles in big provinces and not stock pile a lot of units.

Even if this would be true (which in my opinion isn´t the case) how would you handle such a battle? Would you like to give orders manually? This would lead to a more tactical approach, but HOI 2 is a strategic game. If you don´t want to interfere manually will there be much difference in the outcome of the battle? As it is things are simulated on a fairly abstractive level which should IMO remain in place since (as I mentioned before) this is a strategic wargame.

I don't know if you understand the interface but this should be handle by the AI today so there should't be anymore micro as it is today but it give you a lot more realistic game and stop this pile of units in the same provinces.
I'm not a follower to micro but I want to have a better game though and in this case HOI3 has its points.
