You're missing the point. There have been so many threads with people struggling with everything from completing missions to not making ends meet. We've got people complaining about getting headshot too much. My point is setbacks like that aren't necessarily the end of the world. Sure they're frustrating. I've had missions where all but one of my mechwarriors took headshot injuries. I've lost 3 of my best mechwarriors in a single mission.

To me, if there was no struggle or setbacks, the game would get boring as hell. Although I do concede there should be a global difficulty setting because not everyone likes getting tossed into the deep end right from the start. What I'm not saying is I'm super awesome and everything goes great for me every time because I'm the best player ever. Because none of that is true.
Good sentiments on that 2nd paragraph. As for losing 3 mechwarriors in one mission... yeah, I'd have loaded a game at that point. No need to torture myself. That said, I don't mind damage, losses, etc, and if I feel I can recover well from a loss to complete the mission, I'll keep playing with those results. But huge setbacks... yeah, no thanks. ;)

Fighting 6-8 mechs off at the same time has become the norm unless capturing bases etc.

Still only fielding mediums so I have to be careful to not take a mission where heavies come in abundance as not all my mechs are optimal.

And A.I. has an extra hate for two of my mechs. It will go to extreme lengths to kill the hunchback. Though the key word is "Try" to kill it.

Random pilot loss is very Battletech, though. I lost two pilots to Cockpit crits on PPC headshots in the same round of a TT (technically MegaMek) match recently. It was painful, but it was a reminder that some days the dice hate you.

That said, I don't judge using the power of the saved game in a circumstance like that. In a single player game, I firmly believe that having fun is the only requirement. If losing 3 pilots at once hampers someone's fun, I completely understand that. :)

Random pilot or soldier loss is also how war in general works. It`s one reason why Vet soldiers tend not to make friends with rookies, not even to know their names.

If the game would be really random than occasionally a Union class dropship would land near you and a full company of twelve Mechs attack you at once.
Then you would really need the withdraw option or make an amazing RNG last stand.

No wonder the Directorate fails when it mostly only throws single lances at you one after the other :)
(yes I realize its a game)

Honestly, not a big fan of late game 4-5 skull missions.
Fighting 5-6 Assault mechs and a whole fleet of demolishers is not exactly my idea of fun.

Kinda forces you into a FIELD AS MANY ASSAULT MECHS AS YOU HAVE mentality, which i was hoping this game would avoid.

Thanks for clarifying. I didn't miss your point. You made a different point above and were certainly bragging about your "ironman performance" in light of so many people struggling as you point out above.

People can't read your mind. They can only go on the words you write here to express your ideas. Anyways, it really doesn't matter. If you have fun with the "ironman" limitations you impose on yourself, great.

I pretty much stopped reading here, because this screams "mistake" like Lord Jaraxxus on speed. If your Jagermech is in melee range, you're too close. There is no refit you could possibly make that makes this a good idea.

I literally just had an insane battles today, still in the early game and just got the dragon after panzyr, so I'm on two heavies and two mediums, drop on a two skull mission when I run into the first lance featuring a quickdraw and K2 both with full armour backed by a Wolverine and Griffin. That was pretty easy until a reinforcement lance of 2 Vindicators, a Centurion and an AC/20 Hunchback show up 2 rounds in. Cue the longest game of kite and shoot thus far in my time playing Battletech with the Quickdraw, K2, hunchback and especially that damn Centurion just refusing to die whilst concurrently trading snipes with the two Vindicators. I exhausted the ammo on every mech I had and in the end my jagermech was resorting to kicking Vindicators left and right. So yea, there's a melee jagermech for you.

Second non story mission out with my new Highlander and in the first round of fire it takes a PPC hit straight to the face and nearly oneshots it.

Somewhat upsetting.

He's not bragging about playing on ironman, he's expressing his preference, same as anybody expressing any other preference. We chime in because or enjoyment of the game really does depend on the game being challenging. We don't want our voices to not be included in design choices, present or future.

For us, games without real setbacks and challenges are not fun. If you have fun undoing those setbacks then that's your preference and it's fine.

What in his word choice did you read as bragging? Beware of reading tone into internet chat. It would be bragging if he said, "I play on iron man because I'm not a scrub like the rest of you casuals." Just proclaiming a preference is not bragging.

One thing I hate is where people get upset because of "your tone" or they don`t like my `tone`. I don`t swear, I don`t insult people (unless they directly swear or insult me clearly). I was bought up to be polite, but get to the point.

I never understand this `feelings` nonsense on a forum. How can you tell a `tone` in writing? Sure someone can write, "I hate you!" And yes it`s pretty clear what a person is writing...

But people assume `insult` where there is none simply because you make a point. You haven`t insulted the guy or put him down, but he (or often its she that makes this complaint) sees insult because of her `impression` of your `tone`.

You have to talk like a whimpering sheep afraid to have an opinion because someone might call a mod on a perceived `tone` that was not written, but imagined.

It`s really stupid and I find such places hard to talk on because I am not the kind of person who lies about subjects to please people who get upset by perceived tones they read into what i didn`t say or call me angry when I`m not.

Exactly. Ever since the last Mechwarrior game adopted "hard points" (which never used to be in Battletech), and now having our beloved Battletech game adopt it as well, you'll see this push to run assault mechs as much as possible, regardless of the mission type. And that's a shame. There was a lot of fun in loading up medium and heavy mechs with many multiples of the same weapon (ie: lasers) to serve up a massive punch. You didn't need all assault mechs in other Mechwarrior/Battletech games that let you do that.
