So I just watched the tutorial on battleplans that Paradox put out and also some from youtubers.

When you create a battleplan and hover over the arrow thats drawn, it shows you how your troops will advance, in green and red colors.

It would be better if we could edit that to where our troops should advance, like if we wanted to create a pocket to capture enemy troops in.

Thoughts?

That assume that the enemy would retreat in a way.

Battle plans are general attacks. If you want complexity then you can micro while they more

I think battle plans actually have a bit more options than most LPers are aware of and the short tutorial is showing.

I think you can set different paths of attack with multiple arrows and maybe even different stages.

To form pockets we will still have to micro a fair bit I would guess though.

You can edit where you troops advance my moving the arrow to go through specific provinces.

Further you can add more arrows. Just because a lot of the players we've seen are lazy and use 1 arrow does not mean we have to. I for one intend to make very advanced plans that make sure my units follow a certain path.

So its not something that needs to be fixed, the option is there we just haven't seen it used well yet :p

Best of luck with that you will need it , I could not be bothered explaining why find it out for yourself you had long enough.

well you can also take the arrow and bend it to control the advance. Jake didnt have time to show that in the video and its more of an advanced feature.

I really enjoy his videos, find him one of the better ones. Just he seems to use the standard one general arrow for this advance and one for this and then a little micro in between.

multiple stages are rarely worth the effort. you will run out of most of the planning bonus (you can pause of course to regain) but the thing is that with active defenders stuff is bound to change that makes you want to change the plan anyway at that point. I do it sometimes for fun, but its usually not better

It might be worth it do have Jake (or someone) do an advanced tutorial. The more people understand about how to use battle plans the more likely they are to be happy with them, especially since it's all new for everyone. I can see the complaints next week now about how you can't change the arrow your troops advance in, when actually you can.

Wait, so the bonus eventually runs out? Is there any information in a dev diary or elsewhere on how exactly that works?

It ticks down when you attack or move, slowly reducing, unless you halt and allow them to regroup and start preparing for a further assault.

You really will have to explain to me how to halt your Divisions?

I presume you mean you can manually halt them? How does that work does the AI put the Offensive Plan on hold?

Even podcat seems to suggest you can pause but I always thought they AI will move forward if the Front moves forward so how does it work?

There's a big red button next to the "execute plan" button, I always figured that called for a halt.

So you press the big red button and the AI will halt the Advance ?

Yes, big red buttons, do usually mean STOP!

Want more Italian BP stuff, a mini Ethiopia AAR? Or are you all Youtubing? I'm not Jake, but know a bit about BPs ;)

Chance to ask me anything you want, before I go back to the Wiki. Any excuse to avoid work!

Does that include all the Divisions that are part of a Plan, they will all stop at the same time when you press the big red button?

You can micro if you want or combine macro/micro, or just macro.

The point is that once you start an advance you are not committing your forces to charge the whole way forward. You can halt them if they are running out of BP bonus, org or equipment.
