So these battleplan bonuses. I know that the max % is based on doctrine, and that the bonus moves towards the max percentage over time, if you give units time to prepare after making the plan.

Does the bonus only apply after you execute the plan? Do units lose the bonus if you give them manual orders. How does one bonuses for a defensive battleplan? I suppose you can make a counterattack battleplan and execute it as soon as you get attacked, but that will pretty much mess up any prepared forts or terrain advantage your line was counting on.

Thanks.

From what we have seen, the bonus only applies after you execute the plan. I believe they mentioned during one of the WWW that you lose the bonus if you manual control a unit but it would come back after once it is back on plan.

And I think you could effectively make a defensive battleplan that just holds your current line. It would allow the AI to fill gaps better, shuffle units, that sort of thing.

I have another related question, I couldn;t find the answer off.

Can you specify, (or paint) the line your troops will attack from? In all the gameplay I've seen the troops have been stacked up near the borders. have some troops a ways behind the borders, with an attack plan. To have a counterattack have some nice bonusses?

I think yes, you can place your units on defensive lines inside your country (e.g. along a river line ) and - as I understood it - give a set of offensive orders ( a line somewhere inside a enemy country ). So, as long as you only defend, you stay where you are and as soon as the enemy enters your country you activate your battleplans and your units should move toward enemy with the battleplan bonus.

I´m not sure what to use in this case, Fallback lines or Garrison area ( in this case just a line ), but maybe both methods may work. Normally - as I read it - defense lines are always located at enemy border.

Fallback lines are just an organisation thing, though, they don;t give any planning bonuses.

Sorry, you didn´t understand. Its always the attacking plan ( in this case a counterattacking) that gives the bonus you want. The fallback positions are the desired positions where you can have a second or more defense lines as you clearly didn´t want to "stack up everything near the borders", right ?

Besides that, any position gives you only passive boni like terrain and entrenchment.
So, don´t mix up active and passive.

as you clearly didn´t want to "stack up everything near the borders", right ?
But fact is, HoI 4 is designed for this. An Army simply can't have a defensiv line and a Frontline at the same time. If you draw a defensive line, it replaces the frontline and all your units rush to the new position. (You have to manually order troops to stay back, to delay the enemy.)
An offensive can only be started from a frontline. Therefore, for the bonus to tick up, the troops need to be at the front.

Edit:
a front line needs to be drawn only on the border of an enemy, so if you hold back troops as to hide them you cant get them the bonus. they need to be in position for it to start ticking up (and a good thing it is so you can get some heads up that a front is heating up)
