I am skeptical about a WW1 DLC. From a gameplay point of view it would need to add many mechanics to make it interesting and not just a boring version of WW2 without many of the elements that make Hoi warfare interesting (breakthroughs and encirclements, meaningful air power etc...)

With multiple people expressing interest in multiple WW1 mods, and successful HoI3 and HoI2 WW1 mods (and maybe HoI1, but my memory and all that), I'd hope it'd be a done deal already, but BF1 definitely increases the visibility of WW1 and shouldn't hurt the prospects of an official mod :).

I'm sure we can continue saying it.

"No one would be interested in a WWI DLC for HOI4."

Whether it is true or not is a different question. I'd rather have Vic3 than a WWI DLC for HOI4, but that's just me.

lololol :p. On the by, there's a chance we could possibly have both (although I may sound greedy wanting this!)

That's a confusing statement, greedy because you want to pay money for an add-on to what looks to be a great game and a new iteration of a great title o_O

Haha, sorry, greedy because I want both :). While I'd pay for it, it would cost PDS a good deal more to develop both than I'd be paying personally, so wanting them to make it just to suit my personal preferences would feel a bit greedy. That said, I was mainly writing that in fun (although I do want both :)), not to confuse anyone or start a complex philosophical discussion on the nature of greed :D.

This looks like a movie trailer. I prefer when we see actual gameplay instead of eye candy.
The trailer uses the actual game engine if that's what you mean, Frostbite 3 is incredible in detail. Just comparing Battlefront as well, looks amazing (about all I can say that's great about it, PC pop has died)

Cant wait for COD war of 1812 all those ADD kids are going to go insane with 35 second reload times

They do fine in Pillars of Eternity and Mount and Blade: With Fire and Sword, both of which include old school firearms.

EDIT: I forgot Blood and Gold, although that is a licensed from the Mount and Blade engine.

"No one would be interested in a WWI DLC for HOI4."

Whether it is true or not is a different question. I'd rather have Vic3 than a WWI DLC for HOI4, but that's just me.

My point is a little bit more basic than that. There's been commentary here to the effect that WW1 just doesn't have appeal to the games-playing public full-stop. Even if Battlefront 1 turns out to be a flop, and even if it is an FPS and not a grand-strategy game, this shows that the basic appeal is there.

Vicky 3 stands by itself - V2 didn't cover WW1 in any meaningful way and there's a strong chance that (given the basic concept of the franchise, primarily the fact that it has to be able to cover the early-mid 19th century as well) V3 won't be able to either. That doesn't mean that V3 isn't interesting, but it seems unlikely to be able to scratch that WW1 itch.

Battlefield 1 is already bad, reality side.
The game will have, and I quote, "all the 6 majors country" : USA, UK, Italy, Germany, Austria, Ottoman Empire.

Wait.. no FRANCE ?! In a war my ancestor fought ? Do they really know where the WW1 happens ? Who was the belligerent ?
Yeah, let's make a game about a war with the US only get in in the last year and remove the major country to have fight in it.

As much as i would like a WW1 dlc for HoI IV, i dont see how it could possibly end up not as a stripped down version of HoI IV. It would require alot of gameplay mechanics that arent in HoI but rather in Victoria. A Victoria 3 would work way better than a HoI IV WW1 mod. Without Victorias Crisis system for example it would be kinda dull and hard to reflect the situation back then which ultimately snowballed into ww1.

With that said there will be a WW1 mod at some point anyway, i am sure.

I'm not interested in a WW1 Hoi4 DLC. I think the combat system cannot really simulate trench warfare well enough.
However I'm interested in a new GSG in a WW1 setting.

I wouldn't be interested in it at all as a dlc

This seems more like a total conversion mod, and one that will surely be made
If they tried to do a dlc for this, what would they do in the 20 years between the wars??? People would just spam industry like they do now.

HOI is a series about WAR and not a diplomatic or economic based game, and that is what it would turn into given such a huge time frame.

I'm sure we can continue saying it.

"No one would be interested in a WWI DLC for HOI4."

Whether it is true or not is a different question. I'd rather have Vic3 than a WWI DLC for HOI4, but that's just me.

I agree. Given the choice, or the investment of time I'd much rather have Victoria 3, (provided it has a well designed industrial-warfare system, of course) than a WW1 expansion for Hearts of Iron.

Unless you took HoI4's start date all the way back to roughly 1899, you could not possibly do the First World War the same justice in terms of the build-up, political tension and industrial races that Paradox does so well in starting at 1936 for WW2. Victoria 3 would just do WW1 better in the grand scheme of things.

That doesn't mean we won't see some brilliantly made Steam Workshop mods for HoI4 that will turn it into a WW1 setting.

I wouldn't mind playing a WWI mod or dlc based on hoi IV, how ever unless the war breaks out early, I would hate an 1899 start date, sitting through fifteens years of boredom waiting for things to kick off. I'd rather a 1910ish kind of start date myself.

And also while Victoria's great wars don't go into detail like hoi, they are still a lot of fun and quite rewarding. To finally smash your rivals and cut them down into as many small states as possible. I don't expect, nor want Victoria to be WWI hoi, it's the big picture stuff that leads up to the war and the resulting situation that is fun about Vicky wars imo.

I'm not interested in a WW1 Hoi4 DLC. I think the combat system cannot really simulate trench warfare well enough.

We've been over this one a few times: every weapons system, every tactic, of WW1 was still in use in 1936. If HOI cannot handle WW1 then it cannot handle its own game period.

Without Victorias Crisis system for example it would be kinda dull and hard to reflect the situation back then which ultimately snowballed into ww1.

Are you really saying that HOI will not be able to handle a crisis that snow-balls into war? Yeah, that doesn't at all sound like the 1936-39 period.

With that said there will be a WW1 mod at some point anyway, i am sure.

Judging by the development time of the HOI1, HOI2, and HOI3 WW! mods, it's going to take a number of years to get there. I'd rather have WW1 DLC.

Unless you took HoI4's start date all the way back to roughly 1899, you could not possibly do the First World War the same justice in terms of the build-up, political tension and industrial races that Paradox does so well in starting at 1936 for WW2.

Having a hard time following your logic here: "HOI handles the build up of tension from 1936-39 well, but can't hanle the build up of tension from 1911 to 1914 well because reasons" seems to be what you are saying. There's absolutely no reason whatsoever for a WW1 game to begin in 1899.

while Victoria's great wars don't go into detail like hoi, they are still a lot of fun and quite rewarding. To finally smash your rivals and cut them down into as many small states as possible. Vicky's great wars are fun, but they do not resemble WW1 even slightly.
