in a couple of my games i was able to stop the german at the french border. But i turned italy on neutrality so i guess it is possible but not probable

Gustavus take a paper bag and breath in and out good depp breaths. No not hearts of iron. A different game a pretty cool game but nothging like hearts of iron. Now in hearts of iron i could never stop the germs. J/K i don't have it YET

Why is it so impossible? It shouldn't be that hard...if the game was based on all the facts from WWII, then the game would end the same each and every time. Who would like that? My plan would be to entrench as many men as possible in Belgium with armoured and mechanized divisions with them. There would be improved defences in the Ardennes, along with infantry divisions. The Maginot would be extended to the English Channel. There. Once the Germans have killed themselves in my defences, I go on the offense and by 1942, Berlin is mine! Vive la France!
It is possible to stop the Germans as France in HoI. It is also very difficult to do. And a lot of fun.

My first game i am going to play france. I am going to extend the forts and try and ally with spain. I will position all my mountian troops along the border with italy, and hope that that will slow them down in mountian fighting. Ill also try for an aliance with beligum, poland, and chez

I recently had the idea of attacking if the Germans go East first to get into better defensive positions..perhaps extending all the way to the coast if the Belgians and Dutch join the Allies. And perhaps also grab away some German industry and raw materials in the process!!

I am really looking forward to the French Challenge, but looking at the FAQ it almost seems an impossible task, you are so far behind in Land Doct that you must have to focus on it to even stand a chance. With out having played the game I'd say that you need to concentrate only on Inf, Art/AA/AT, fighters and possibly tanks to have any hope at all.
I dont quite understand why the French are THAT bad off but whatever.
I think that there are going to be several key things to do as France.
1) make sure that Republicans win in Spain
2) fortify southern France even more then it is.
Build infantry units with AT and tanks with AA.

I've been writing three different term papers during the past week and a half, so I'm not exactly up to speed with current events. Aside from the "sniper" I haven't heard of anything about Maryland crime. I'm sorry if I offended anyone, but by no means at all did I intend any harm. I was just trying to humorously indicate my great desire to own HoI. Again, I'm sorry for any offence.
France is able to defend itself. I even managed it in MP/39 scenario vs. a human opponent.
Things in France get very hairy when the Nationalist in Spain win and join the Axis. Fighting a 3 front war is not fun. Especially if the Italians and the Spanish join the Axis after the declaration of war.
Essentially the way not to fight it is to focus on massive research in many fields. I have learnt, the hard way, that focused research together with building massive defenses is the way, unless the Spanish and the Italians join in at the same time, because then you're pretty much toast, unless you're really good or lucky.

Wouldn't France have a good flow of resources. If memory serves then they have their own empire. SE Asia, N africa, Some more in africa, can't thin of anything else.

Now you know why they weren't very keen on letting you on the plane.
Yes actually I think they are self-sufficient in everything besides Oil but can probably trade some of their rubber to the US for some Oil reserves.
