As a veteran HoI2 player and experienced HoI3 player I was really excited about HoI4 when I recently purchased it. The land combat with planning looks great (although a bit more tooltips and flexibility would come in handy), but I'm really confused about air and air-sea combat.
Started as Germany, went fairly historical, in 1939 took Poland and since I still got time before winter, went through Benelux and defeated France. Then came the "Battle of Britain" part. I built radar lvl 2 in Normandy, sent my planes over the channel and into southern Britain to bomb/air superior/intercept. The RAF was almost wiped out (lost approx 600 planes and were no longer showing anywhere to contest my air superiority, they were left with only ~20 AA installations in southern Britain), and I was left with approx. 900 CAS, 700 INT, 600 TAC, 60 NAV. Was a bit disappointed thet I can't send TAC to bomb ships. But more disappointed with their actual effect.
When bombing Britain strategically (day and night), I was losing about 6 planes/day, and after a month I read that I bombed about 20 facilities... Well, is that it?
The sadder part was bombing ships in the channel/in the ports. GB had a regular fleet stationed in the Channel, which was chatching my submarines trying to sneak through to the Atlantic with breathtaking efficiency, but when I sent all my planes to bomb them, the results were something like 4% dmg to a single ship per day. (and it also led to spamming of "naval combat" messages between a couple of my planes and some ships) The UK even staged several lame attempts of invasion - under these circumstances! There were british soldiers trying to storm my beaches being bombed by hundreds of planes...
Am I doing something wrong? Or is the bombardment really that weak? Should I really get STR and NAV to do the job, because CAS and TAC are only useful as ground support?
