As a side feature that I think would be fun to have is to take the dossier that each commander has, and apply it to each unit as well. That way, though commanders change around, you can still keep a history of your units.

This may be a little nerdy of me, but I actually going through and seeing all the fights my units have been in. If this will take away from other, more important features, by all means leave it out, but I think it would be something nifty for some of the hard core military history nerds.

that already exists in hoi2 dd arma. If u place your mouse over a commander, u can see a list of battles he won/lost, and the size of units involved.

A good idea, would be fun to browse thorugh the unit's battle history in late game. It shouldn't be that difficult to implement when the generals already have a similar system...

Something similar for the airforce - especially the naval bombers. I like it that a ship keeps a record of other ships sunk by her, but something similar for air-units would be cool also.

But OMG the save files for DD ARMA are so huge already tracking each individual unit now? For land based I wouldn't support but it might be good for ships or aircraft maybe if done properly.

I like all these "nice to haves", but honestly I would put ideas like this at the bottom of the priority list.

Anyone playing HOI2 with full expansions and patches, for a few months gets aware of the fact that major issues need to be tackled. It all costs time, money etc. to implement - resources better spend on the number issues that weren't even solved in the end of HOI2 with all its patches and expansions (our money).

F.e. one of the most annoying HOI2 issues were f.e. the hating puppets and the failing spying system.

Exactly. People keep bringing up all kinds of minor things when there's huge underlying problems that need fixing. I wish paradox would release more details so we can make actual suggestions.

or...wouldn't it be cool if through your generals weinning battles etc you can award them medals? So...if Rommel does this many victories and etc etc, you could via event give him an award like the knights cross (it'd have to be triggered as it'd be stupid as you'd give everyone an iron or knights cross lol) and that medal could increase morale or summin'? I dunno, it probably isn't practical at all. Perhaps not so much of a good idea after all lol...

They should also work reducing the overall file-size. Especially if it is various saves of essentially the same game.

e.g. a campaign starting in 1936 going until 1948 with one save each year... how much data would be reproduced from the war-years? There's probably a way that the overall bloat can be minimized while retaining the features.

Like battle-honours/unit-histories, which would be neat.

Well this is already in the games engine, EU3 records all the battles that take place (well the game reads them from its history files) and when you resign (quit to menu) all the wars you fought it should be pretty simple to display something else.

yes, but remember that people go nuts about rewards and prooving to their girlfiend that the 7th Panzer army conquered London

so this would be a nice marketing strategy

Quite. 20mb savegames are QUITE big enough thankyou!

It would be a nice, immersive feeling to have each unit's war diary available to read in the interface. But it's a mammoth amount of information...

Kind of but not for the actual country leaders but random battles ie

On June the 22nd the 24th Rifles honourably fought an unwinnable battle against the 2nd German Panzer Army and were wiped out.
(This is a completely random unit the rest I looked up on Wikipedia)

On February the 2nd 1943 Units including the Soviet 62nd Army and the Stalingrad Front surrounded and destroyed the whole of the German 6th Army

On the 2nd of May 1945 men of the 334th Rifle Division attached to the 3rd Shock Army captured Rechstag winning the battle for the German Capital.

but actually showing a lot more and maybe being able to actually group and nameing some of them

But isn't most of that duplication? This isn't something restricted to HoI. Crusader Kings also has save-game-bloat. Except there instead of unit histories, i think it is generations of dead courtiers...
