One line summary of your issue
Cannot get past first menu-screen in ultrawide 3440x1440

Please explain your issue is in as much detail as possible.
When I start the game, log in to PDX account, then I get a screen to enter callsign, choose insignia and colors.
But there is no way to continue from this screen.

If I click the two chevron "back" button or whatever it is, the game throws an error: "Please enter callsign" - although I did enter one.
If I click Escape-button on keyboard, the same happens.

Probably due to the ultrawide resolution of 3440x1440. But I don't see a way to enter options and change the resolution to test another resolution.

Steps to reproduce the issue
Start game first time in res. 3440x1440.

I entered the game with 1920x1200 resolution as the game did not recognize my 3440x1440 native resolution. Registration went fine. After looking at the scenario intro I went back to set the resolution right to 3440x1440, which appeared in my settings list. Going again for the start of the campaign, I am not able to press the Next-button anymore and the text window of the background story in ranging into the breadcrumb navigation, layering it over so that nothing can be selected.

I had to kill the application via Task Manager.

Then I forced Windows to a non-native resolution of 1920x1080. Booted up again and this time I got the buttons at the bottom. But now I got stuck in some sort of server connection error. Comsat connection error or something. No means of escaping this screen either. Press Escape-button and try again, and it says something like "User account already registered". So I had to killed Battletech via Task Manager once again.

Then I reset Windows to native resolution 3440x1440 and loaded the game. This time I got what I think is the real main screen (Campaign and Skirmish buttons) and the resolution was autoset to 2560x1440 which is the highest resolution available in Options -> Video.
It says my account is in offline mode - though internet connection is fine.

I don't even have res choice in settings list higher than 1900x1200, and if I choose that it looks like a little box on my giant monitor... My desktop res is 3440x1440
I have 2560x1440 available as the highest - but not the native 3440x1440 which I use.
It is weird that we don't have the same resolutions available...

Edit: Oh, and @unittype says he HAS 3440x1440 available in video options. So three different max resolutions available, for three different users all on 3440x1440... Things only got more confusion.

I'm using Asus ROG SWIFT PQ348Q monitor with a GeForce GTX 970 on Win 10 Pro x64, Intel i7 and 16 gb ram.
Windows and all drivers are installed and up-to-date.

Same problem here guys, I managed to shoehorn it to work (kind of) by setting it to 2560x1440 in windowed mode, then going back into the options when the game window has detached and setting the res again to 3440x1440, after that hit alt+enter and it sort of works, messages in game are slightly cut off at the bottom but for the most part its passable until a fix comes around.

No idea why soem people aren't seeing 3440x1440 as a res? I've heard rumours on the steam boards that they've patched it out although i'm unable to confirm as I've only started the game once and i'm still in that first session playing it, just currently alt+tabbed out.

Runni an Asus PG348q/Titan Xp in case anyone is wondering, oh, and the performance isnt great even on an overclocked/watercooled titan..

Once I get to the screen where you have to choose your character's family's background, I am also unable to click on the NEXT or BACK buttons.

I'm at 3440x1440 on an Acer Predator 34 with a 1080ti.

Weird. I preloaded the game from Steam. But really, we should all have the same version.

I cannot find the version number anywhere though - That info would be nice to have on the main menu.

This is what the main in game menu looks like after the first couple of missions for those who are interested.

I'm aware people can't get passed the first menu, try setting the game to 1920x1080 to get passed that as I did and then do what I mentioned above and see what your results are?

For those who haven't even got the 3440x1440 res? I have no idea... sorry.

Backer here.

I was sure that HBS would make UW support a priority in this game, seeing that we're in 2018 and this kind of tech keeps getting more affordable...

I started the game today, full of hype and expecting to have full support for UW monitors, as much cheaper games already offer support, only to be hammered by weird button placement everywhere in the character creation (even though UW resol was available AND SELECTED in the first video option screen of the game).

So, it seems like support to this resolution was offered, since the option is there, right on the front page, but once I logged in with my account and started playing, I couldn't select anything over 2560x1440.

Devs, I backed this project a long long time ago and now it's simply impossible to fully enjoy the game with those black bars on the sides...

Unfortunately I cannot request a refund, but owning a 34" UW monitor for over 2 years, I can safely say that there are tons of games who support this format.

Is there a workaround or a way to change the settings via file, or are we, ultrawide resolution gamers, supposed to suffer those absurd, cheap black bars on the sides?

Thanks

Greetings all,

I also had difficulty in setting the resolution as my desktop is configured for. [5760 x 1080]
- Solution, while the game is up I set my desktop to the default game resolution of 1920 x 1080.
- Yes, it's only one of the 3 monitors I have, but the game plays great and everything ( controls/selections) are visible.

Lets hope that HBS has a patch to resolve these issues.

Later,

Once I get to the screen where you have to choose your character's family's background, I am also unable to click on the NEXT or BACK buttons.

I'm at 3440x1440 on an Acer Predator 34 with a 1080ti.

This seems to be because the UI isn't properly configured for UW support... I had the same issue and got past the screen by just using enter for next and escape for previous, but upon trying to customize a character, I notice that the "Makeup" options are largely obscured by the now suddenly functioning Next and Previous buttons heh. Different screen, different card... it's not you, it's the game. Hopefully this gets patched soon.

3840x1600 here. I got by with Enter and Escape when buttons were off screen or unclickable. However, I ended up changing to 1920x1080 windowed when I got to the point where I could modify mech equipment. The leg components are completely inaccessible.

Hey all!

If you want to change the resolution before accessing the game, you should be able to do it by holding the "ALT" key while launching the game. That will bring up the Unity resolution settings where you can customize this before launching the game.

If you launch the game in windowed mode, the game should allow all resolutions supported by your monitor. You can also try to run the game at a higher resolution in windowed mode if you add the option "-popupwindow" to your exe file or if you add it as a launch option on Steam (right click the game -> Properties -> General -> Set launch options)

Can you guys check if this works for you?

You can also try to run the game at a higher resolution in windowed mode if you add the option "-popupwindow" to your exe file or if you add it as a launch option on Steam (right click the game -> Properties -> General -> Set launch options)

Can you guys check if this works for you?

Appreciate the reply AldathPDX, but the issue isn't with changing the resolution. The in-game settings work well enough for that. The issue is the UI extends beyond the edge of the screen at high ratio resolutions like 21:9. This applies to UI elements like the button when loading a level is complete, the refit mech UI (screenshot above), etc.

It's my understanding that those resolutions are not supported when launching the game in full screen mode, but they might work if you launch the game in windowed mode. Have you tried that? Unfortunately I don't have an ultra-wide monitor where I can test this :(
