One line summary of your issue
Battle tech: game crashes after 3 years later

Please explain your issue is in as much detail as possible.
After the mission "3 years later", I am able to see the mission report, then the games screen goes black and starts to show the loading spinner. After a time that goes away and leaves a black screen w/ a cursor. The game freezes and crashes at that point.

Steps to reproduce the issue
I replayed the mission 3 times from two different save files, then started a new game. It still crashed at that same point.

Having the exact same problem. Am also on an older AMD card. Very annoying, since everything else seems to run perfectly. It's like only having a demo of the game...

(after the "3 years later" mission, i get to see the score screen, then the program freezes - one time I caught a brief glimpse of a message saying my display drivers had crashed, but it disappeared.)

Don't be discouraged by the 2 Hour Limit. Steam has refunded for games played longer. May have to justify the position a bit more detailed, but they should honor a refund. And maybe, if this becomes a big thing, Steam might send HBS a notice that their game is costing Steam.... I'm all for motivation. :D

Actually, I tried to refund the game a while ago, thinking that if I put the game out of my mind I would not need to feel ripped off and take this personally - then, once the problem was fixed, I could buy the game anew and treat it with a fresh perspective. Steam flatly rejected the refund request, however: it isn't a matter of being "discouraged", at this point it is just a matter of fact.

So instead, I *do* feel scammed and get angrier by the day.

Personnally i dont think that "scammed " is the right word to use here right now. HBS made some very good other games, may not be AAA titles but still,On oner hand im a bit disappointed by the fact that the Menus actually use more memory and graphics card that the actual active parts of the game. On the other hand the game has just been released, maybe we should not get angry too fast and wait for the first patches, which hopefully will resolve this issue for us amd users, especially for the "older"cards which weirdly can still run the 2 first missions perfectly.

It doesn't need to be strictly accurate to be how you feel. This is why I wanted to head this dynamic off at the pass.

Because you can sit there and say "OK, the game is there but just don't click on it til they fix it" but that leads one to think about the fact that you gave someone $40 to install something that is nothing but a source of frustration. And then you can think to yourself "Well but eventually they will fix it" but that is pretty weak without any semblance of positive information about it, and combined with the fact that the support responses are primarily of the "Sorry your hardware is bad" variety it start to suggest that creeping possibility that they'll not fix it at all and just say "Sorry, we can't support your hardware, get a refund from Steam" (which, of course, has already been denied, and when you are reminded of that the cycle starts over again).

For me it works a little different. I cannot see any cinematic. I do hear sounds, subtitles are visible but can't see the video.

On top of that the game is literally kicking me out while loading the very first mission (not the prologue where you learn of the basics).
By kicking me out I mean the Windows profile gets disconnected (lol?).

This is my setup:

. AMD Radeon HD 8970M 4096MB GDDR5
. Intel Core i7-4700MQ - 2,40 - 3,40GHz 6MB 47W
. 8GB (1x8192) SO-DIMM DDR3 RAM 1600MHz Crucial
. 120GB SATA-III SSD Samsung 840 EVO Series (MZ-7TE120BW)

Never had problem running stuff more "demanding" (at least on the graphics).
I monitored the RAM commitment and while the Physical Memory stays in place at 5÷6 Gb, the System Commit skyrockets over 12Gb .... and I guess that's the reason why the system automatically shuts down itself.

I guess there's a big bug to fix with AMD compatibility

This has to be a major issue. I see similar threads reports on the steam forums as well. They all seem to revolve around AMD cards too.

This $40 game may result in costing me another $200 in order to buy an nVidia card to run it? That is a little absurd...

This may or may not be related, but i'll post it here just in case it might help the devs find the solution.

so i was playing skirmishes against the AI, but decided to measure myself to actual human players. Launch a game, loading goes well, "waiting for opponent" then "oops, opponent disconnected". well, that's okay, it happens, but then the game goes...black. the cursor still moves, the music is still there, but the screen is just black, very similar to what we have after this mission (as far as i can tell).
well actually i still could alt-tab in and out, while after the mission "Three years later" the game freezes (but it didn't before i updated my drivers, i think)

Yep ... AMD card and it bogs right down when I'm trying to adjust the camera and the game popped mid-mission. Stopped responding when it was almost done. AAARGGH!

I also found that if anything, I mean ANYTHING, that might also have sound (any other program that uses sound), is running, whether it's actively utilizing sound or not, causes the sound (all sound) to strobe on and off until the only possible access to the soundcard (onboard) is via this game. Stobes on and off on a 1-second count.

Hey @LanceKoth,

Unfortunately it seems that you're using a graphics card that does not meet the minimum requirements. I'm not sure which exact model you have within the AMD Mobility Radeon HD 5000 Series, but here you can see a comparison between the 5870 (minimum spec) and its Mobility counterpart:
http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/AMD-Mobility-Radeon-HD-5870-vs-AMD-HD-5870/m8764vsm7681

Well I have an AMD 6800HD and it's not up to the challenge of this game it seems. I honestly think there might be some kind of memory leak or something because I find it gets more and more laggy and boggy as the game is run. All my Driver's are updated just before this game came out. I have 16 Gb of RAM, a pretty good i5 quad and an okay ASUS MB ... so I rarely have problems as I don't play bleeding-edge graphics heavy games ... but this game seems to be quite a resource hog? I dunno but I'm not having that much fun right now. :(

what i dont get is that the next thing that happens is a dialog sequence like the one before the 3 years later mission, weve had one of those why does this one crash it what makes that take so much resources that it maxes out my graphics card?
FRAC
FRAKING! RIGHT Sir......Crash on a menu driven back drop like a find and seek wall paper search game , BOOM TMI your ram ? And there is a consistent 1 to 7% PC USAGE in the back ground trying to worm its way out too. I hope this is not another Dune game release hack.

I can tell you from my experience that even getting past that point will just result in another crash at some later point when you try to use the leopard dropship.

I managed to get past the 3 years later crash, got the stuff on the ship done, ran another mission, boom crash as soon as it tried to load back into the leopard. After some fiddling with uninstalling and reinstalling drivers got past that crash, then after another mission crashed on loading leopard dropship.

It seems like something about the scenes with your crew just standing around the leopard breaks the AMD drivers for the older cards, and the game can't seem to handle staying running after the driver recovers.
Same with radeon too.....

I don't feel scammed or overly upset because i've been wanting such a game for years, and i'll eventually get to play it even if i have to wait until i get a new PC, but still i'd like to know if the devs are looking into this issue.
i don't ask for a quick fix, just knowing that it's on their checklist would be good enough for now...

currently using another laptop with nvidia card to manage the team and load into missions. then save and then load this save up on the desktop pc to finish up the mission. :D slow and tedious. also doing save when nearing the end of missions or last enemy mechs.

the graphic card (HD5700) which has been with me on so many AAA games (Witcher 3, dragon age, fallout etc) is brought to his knees and knocked senseless due to "static" 3D models.. i refuse to believe that :D

Well it seems the Mission might be bugged. Played another mission on the same planet and no problems. Start the Enemy Spy on Panzyr and it died on the 4th round after say 15-minutes of the game being fired up after some mech changes. This is the same mission I've been getting all my crashes on.
