Are you talking about, what the game calls a division but you only have something like 1 battalion in it?

HP is going to be a major concern, and those 1/2/3 wide templates, if you have enough of them, will likely run into what is actually the overstacking penalty when it comes to combat (rather than the over width penalty which is sometimes called overstacking). Stuff like the black shirt assault battalion for the italians, being a support company that gives the template 40 HP last I checked, combined with superior firepower to boost your support companies, could probably make the best showing of these sorts of template. But I'm not sure if it would be good.

Well, you can have a 40+ HP super heavy that can't be pierced, for example?

How does HP degrade in combat?
Take damage, lose HP. The more HP you have, the less losing 1 HP is going to matter.

HP doesn't really matter by itself though, its more practical to think about the ratios between HP and other things. HP and org, so you can see how much HP you'd expect to lose from your template going from full to 0 org. Ideally you want to stay within the 90% bracket, so you don't lose as much of your damage output modifier, and you only have to wait for one manpower replenishment wave to get back to full strength. And then also your manpower and IC per HP ratios, to see how much of your manpower and material each point of HP is protecting.

Super heavies are going to be super expensive, but I guess the italians also have a focus to help with them that. Which sort of prevents fielding them in such a mass to saturate combats, and I also doubt each one really has enough defensive stats to protect themselves that well against the more traditional 40+w's that would still be focusing a lot of attacks. These small widths would also be spreading their attacks out, which would generally make them less efficient but it does have the advantage of less likely to make the enemy naturally cycle, you can kick them all out at once and win that way. And being super small like that, you also put yourself at the mercy of the 'too big' 'feature' of the targeting.

I guess there is potential here for it to be a meme meta for specifically italy, of some sort. and I largely disregard memes for serious thought, because even if it does work, something like this probably 'shouldnt'. A 40 HP support company is just so ridiculous on its face, in my mind.

a 40HP company will reduce infantry division loss about 20% and tank division loss about 1/3. Looks too good. Another way to reduce tank loss is keep high reliability instead of getting a few more attack.
