I built Bastion starports in my choke points. I figured this will protect my other systems, but somehow the enemy is getting around them. It seems like they are entering the system and just flying around the starport without engaging, and then accessing the other systems. Is this normal? What is the point of building a Bastion, if the enemy can just ignore them, or am I missing something?

Thanks!

Ok, just spent a few minutes watching the enemy. They are definitely flying around the outskirts of the system without engaging the Bastion.. The Bastion has a Target uplink computer for increased weapons range, but the enemy is just bypassing it. Are Bastions pointless? Is there something else I should have done?

While i haven't engaged any enemies in my home systems since the big 2.0 changes, if it works the same way as it did before...

You might have to go into the shipbuilding section to fit some (or maybe even just one per sector/starbase), of your fortresses with snare modules to stop them ignoring your defenses...

Failing that, placing a couple of corvettes at "breadcrumb points" to try and tease the enemy closer to your stations, might work (never tried this myself, but it's worth a shot).

Something else that might also be a good idea, is placing corvette only fleets on patrol or at points around target sectors to chase down enemy fleets.

In particular, a big change in the recent big patch is how corvettes finally use their small size and speed to good effect, especially in sector, but also in hyperspace, to move considerably faster than other ship types or mixed fleets.

Enemy fleets can bypass your bastions until you get the FTL inhibitor technology researched. After that point, they will *have* to engage the bastion before they can move through the system. Simples.

To add, this has extra impact if you have a planet colonised in the system. Then they have to take the station and the planet before moving forward.
