excellent update, utterly flawless in it's delivery. I must have missed the deceleration of war though, why are Prussia and Rome at war?

Your narrative is perfect, and a brilliant update as well, shame to hear about the Norse but all good things must come to an end.
Thank you very much, I shall try to keep it up.

Poor Nyjaþing, would really be interesting if there were reserves for them though...if any survived that is
It would be interesting, and it is likely that some survive. I'm not really sure how the reservation system will work in Quebec, in the GNI it was much like the USA's policy (Walk west until we tell you to stop).

Aw, poor Constantinople. I'm beginning to like the Prussians less now. It's increasingly clear to me that it is in the Caliphate that the future lies, not with Prussia.
And that might be the case, however; there are no good guys in real life. Only less-of-a-bad guys.

Thank you very much! There was no real declaration. Bulgaria (Roman sphere) and Wallachia (Prussian sphere) were fighting each other and Rome saw it fit to block Prussian trade out of the Black Sea. So the Bosporus had to be forced back open.

ahhh well fair play to the Prussians then, however it seems to me their ambitions go a bit beyond mere trading this time around

No I agree, but it is rare in politics and war that the stated goals of a nation are its only goals.

Poor skrælingjar. Oh well, they had to make room for the french I guess.
And the Vasques and the Istimari... The St. Lawrence area is the Balkans of the Americas. I really enjoyed writing about Lúðvik and Eirik, but the Norse were already destined to fail so I thought we'd bow out early. I am always looking for suggestions if the Prussian overlords are getting slightly drab (Doyvát the younger is still unwed so I don't have a new young'n to show you yet).

Well first off, he has his whole universe partially mapped out and I don't remember him saying he had actually played through those two games.

And, even though this is doubtful, I think he said he wouldn't play those two games as he would be afraid the games would deviate too much from his partially mapped out plan.

I'll wait for "word of god" before saying anything else though.

They aren't drab at all. Doyvát the younger is refreshingly pragmatic :D
Well thank you, but we might be seeing a new cast being introduced soon enough.

Just spent the last 4 days working through Homelands.

Fantastic piece of work and has made me appreciate Bastions so much more, I love your work Mr Capitalist, how many books are there left to go?
As said, after Bastions... which is no where near done, there are two books left: Oceans and Ironworks. Oceans is another EUIII AAR (split to keep book lengths even) and Ironworks is a Vicky II AAR.

Besides this one, I think there were two more, one for Victoria II and another for HoI IIRC.
Close. ;)

Don't expect them to be actually based on gameplay though.
Why not? Mr. C usually deviates somewhat from what actually happened, but not that much. I think...
:)
I do not care for the AI's unwillingness to follow my ideas. There might eventually be a Vicky II mod for the game, and a Darkest Hour mod... but those are still just sort of back-burning ideas. Now that I've graduated from college I am going to write a bit more and work on a new EU III mod with a couple start dates.

I enjoy the debate, but please try to keep things on topic. Though I agree we need an international standard on typed sarcasm so that we can better understand each other.

Prussian History and Culture
Immigration and Assimilation

It would be a mistake to think that immigration is a modern phenomenon. Today, as Europe take a strong initiative in building a strong economy, immigration has come to the fore-front of politics. How to integrate immigrants and what rights they are guaranteed can very quickly polarize any room, even a room of usually like-minded individuals. Immigration to Prussia started during the infinite war as hundreds of disenfranchised nobles left their homelands to make a new life in Prussia as well as the dominions of the old Empire. Germans especially made a strong impact in the Balkans, where they eventually came to embody the Wallachian spirit of freedom and tradition. Normans and English would eventually become the Azowians of the present, settling along the Don river and throughout the Crimean region. But for the most part immigration in the middle ages was not as common as resettlement. It was often the case that peasants were tied to their ancestral lands as serfs. They could only move if their lords moved and their lords moved only if they had conquered a new realm. Such was the case for the Cartheginians who settled Tunis or the Azowians who defined the northern shores of the Black Sea.

The Imperial Court attracted a large number of Christian nobles who had lost their previous employment to the expansion of Islam through Europe. It was also the case that so-called "ambassador-dynasties" began to appear. The Hadads, once a Muslim weaponsmith family, became the permanent ambassadors from the Caliph to the Kings of Prussia. They were at the center of a vibrant and thriving Muslim community in Memelgrád. This community was made up entirely of the Hadad clan (with brides and grooms imported to keep the blood from becoming inbred). In time though, cannons became more common and the expertise of the Hadad fell out of demand. The family was one of the first to convert to Frandism, though eventually they became Christianized. Today, forms of the Hadad dynasty survive to the modern day. The following surnames all come from the original: Hádád, Átá, Ádá, Hád, Had, Hada, Ad.

In the XIX Century, immigration for Prussia was most often in the context of emigration. Tens of thousands of Prussians left the motherland for the New World. Most Prussians headed to the former colonies where they would be able to speak the language. By 1900, over half of the population of Texas was an immigrant or descended from immigrants. In Mexico, with its larger population, this number was closer to 25%. In California, many of the Prussians had left to escape serfdom, and soon found themselves near the top of the social pyramid. This would later become the driving force of the institutional discrimination against Native Americans. This was in stark contrast to the situation in Texas and Mexico where Prussian immigrants were often at the fore-front of the emancipation movement to free the Native American slaves. These numbers increased to a peak during the First World War and the Great Civil War. After the communists took over, emigration was essentially stopped and immigrates slowly began trickle back in.

Between the Communist Revolution and the Rose Revolution emigration was unofficially illegal. The government made leaving extremely hard, not that the democratic countries were very willing to take communist ex-patriots. Instead a small number of communists and communist sympathizers were allowed to settle in Prussia every year. Often times they were toured through show cities like Memelgrád and settled in specific "utopias" to ensure that Prussia looked good to the outsiders. Many of these people were Europeans, especially from other Communist countries. Also amongst the immigrants were Africans and Asians, though many of these people would eventually return to their home countries after years of discrimination.

When communism eventually ended Prussia was introduced to a growing immigrant movement that was already establishing itself in the non-communist countries: Hindu immigrants from the Near East. Immigrants were now drawn in not by the political freedoms, but rather the economic prospects. The Democratic Spring, a long period of liberal democratic reform throughout Western Europe, Northern Africa, and the Near East; gave the people of the Near East the same sort of political freedoms enjoyed by many in Europe. What Europe had that the Near East didn't, was a vibrant and varied economy with better wages and more social reforms. However; even the most ardent Democratic Socialist of Prussia is unsure whether immigrants should get the same social securities of Prussian citizens.

Happy new year, everyone. If you hadn't noticed there is an update above this post, but more importantly it is time again for the AARland Choice Awards. This will be the last round for 2011 and Bastions, as always, is up for the EU Narrative category. Please vote for your favorite AARs, it means a lot to us writers.

Thanks a lot, everyone and I hope you've had a great holiday season!

Happy New Year! An interesting update on a topic that is, as you said, politically charging even in RL today!
It is. I might be unpopular for this belief, but I really enjoy racial and cultural diversity. One of the things I love about West Lafayette (where I live) is the great diversity in food, languages and people... and one of the things I hate about Indiana (the state I live in) is the utter lack of those things outside of a few areas.
