Just my two cents but it sounds like things could be improved drastically, if there was a new event train for the treatment of bastards so you could choose how to treat them, ie :

Event : Your bastard is not being treated well

choice a :who cares (maybe small chance of getting cruel and bastard becomes stressed/depressed/loses loyalty)
Choice b :intervene (?-prestige? some pious traits maybe? bastard more loyal stats boost as is percieved better)
choice c : tell him to get back at them (bastard has a chance to become vengeful cruel)

Im not saying this is exactly how it should be but events like this would flush out the bastard part of the game. Then if you constantly champion your bastard they might become quite important at the risk of offending your legit children and nobility. It could also be used to lead to the "pious treatment of your bastard" event that seems to be fairly random. This event chain could also (if possible) lead to intervention style events ie. you always shun your bastard so they leave and come back with your enemies army. All in all if think adding these kind of events could help make bastards both an asset and a liability and would add alot to the game.

aren't the stats the combination of genetical and educational effects. With the bastards having a very hard time coming to call - getting training, attention, money (love  ) - instead they get are negated, get assassinations, etc,

on the other hand, bastards like William the conquerer just became strong nuts due to these mischiefs, ;)

Even more so if one takes into account they add nothing as is.

Er...if you look closely at the FULL bastards set of events you will note that there is already a variety of event "paths" that allow you to treat a bastard favourably or poorly, and depending on which way you choose they will get certain traits that will affect the way that the contribute to (or hinder) your court. Bastards *do* have positive (benficial) events that will occur that make them interesting and useful to have around your court...as long as you're also prepared to take the small risk that they could become head-strong.

What I specifically *didn't* want was to set a path that has no risks and constantly provides rewards, otherwise there's no particular reason to have scripted them at all.

If the genetic malus to a bastard's health bothers you, it can be negated via events. All you need do is give the trait Bastard +2/3 to health and then check for events which remove the Bastard trait and ensure that they have a corresponding +2/3 to base health for the character. Voila. Bastards who are no longer much more likely to die just for being bastards.

I think its a perverse way to do it, and that the increased chance of a bastard meeting an early grave is about right. But if it really irks you, that'd be my suggestion to fix it.

Oh, there still is a reason to have them -- it allows you to have heirs, and thus continue your dynasty -- even though your wife is barren.

A bastard almost never legitimates while the father is alive, so there is no reason to have them.

Since we are discussing bastards and the bastard events.

I have just opened the bastards events files and I see alot of events which I have never seen in any of my games.

Such as 8505 to 8508, 8530 to 8533, 8600 to 8609.

They look really nice and cool, but they are so rare it seems.

Sorry I've only ever seen the one where you choose whether or not to assasinate them, I'll take a look at them later
