I think I may have found a fix for the notoriously non-working 'Barrel Exploits' that should give an anti-entrenchment bonus but don't:

Change (in db/tech/army_inventions.txt):
command = { type = barrel_exploits value = 30 }

to
command = { type = barrel_exploits which = barrel value = 30 }

And I believe this does give barrel divisions and anti-entrenchment bonus. Could somebody please confirm this?

This has yet to be fixed in any of the patches...have to try this fix when i get home. :D

Cool. I can't test it right now, but if this works I would not be too surprised if this works. Aprof was very happy with me when I discovered the add division when = province id really only worked if you had "where" instead of "when" just before we released VIP 0.3.

If no one has tested by tomorrow I'll do it then.

I knew it had something to do with tanks... I hope that works cuz that sounds like a pretty big bug

Indeed, which to me suggests that it is combat-calculation part that doesn't work, not that there's a problem with the use of event-commands (but I still hope that it's the latter, tho')

If this command works then it should be made twice because there are 2 inventions giving the 30 barrel bonus for tanks and 1 for infantry so keep it in mind in case somebody tests it.

This may sound like a stupid question, but how is shock actually used in the game?

At the mo I usually charge cav into a province, into the rear of an already engaged enemy thinking this will 'shock' them. Am using shock units right? or should I just wade in with them like infantry?

What about speed? Aren't tanks faster than artillery? That's why I use them! Early Blitzkrieg!!!
