Why does Arclight have no salary?
It looks like "Arclight" is the protagonist (you). Either the default or just the one they chose on this playthrough. No salary, can't be dismissed, doesn't seem to count towards the available berths.

I don't recognize the Piloting 8 skill icon or the Guts 8 skill icon. I assume Piloting 8 is still Angel of Death (jump jets and DFA boost), but that could have changed.

Guts reduces recoil penalties? Oh reeealy? :D I know what I want my autocannon heavy mech pilots to have.

So with pilots starting as Recruit and then moving to Gunner/Defender as first level of specialisation, I am guessing that there will be 4 x 1st level specialisation titles and then another 4 x 2nd level specialisation titles possibly?

Or maybe just the four titles?

There seem to be some reshuffling of skill effects:
  • Importantly, it looks like Guts no longer raise your heat level before critical damage. They are spelling out every single other effect of skills, it would be odd for this to be the one left unspoken.
  • Recoil penalty -1 is a new feature of Guts, from either 4 or 5. What's recoil? Is this a reference to the penalty from using autocannons two turns in a row? In the beta files, weapons had "Recoil" values ranging from 0 to 4 (and not just on ACs, i.e. large laser had recoil of 2), but in the beta this recoil value didn't seem to do anything.
  • Guts giving us extra health was something we knew about but it's still worth mentioning since we didn't see that in the beta.
  • Unsteady threshold +1 used to be from Piloting 5, now it seems to be from either 3 or 4.
  • Indirect fire penalty -1 used to be Tactics 3, but seems to have moved to Tactics 4
  • Tactics 4 used to increase the chance for called shots to hit, that seems to have either gone away or been moved up to a higher rank.

If the screens are accurate, it means Tactics also no longer increases sight or sensor range.

That being said, it's important to not get overly caught up in the minute details because this video was intended to give viewers a quick feel of the game, not serve as a manual.

Just to clarify based on a few posts here and from other threads; if someone could confirm that this is correct it would be appreciated.

There are regular bonuses to increasing mechwarrior stats as shown in the images in the OP. These are shown by the small dots on each skill level indicator and cumulative bonuses are shown in the sidebars. There are also major bonuses / perks / whatever at levels 5 and 8 of each stat. Each MW can only have one level 8 bonus (and the level 5 bonus on the same track) and one secondary level 5 bonus.

Presumably you can still gain the other regular benefits of skills in spite of the restrictions on the level 5/8 abilities?

This is a very nice, clean UI as seen in most of the other screenshots, very pleasant to see as I hated wrestling with the UI in XCOM 2 - it had some serious style over function flaws.

Tactics probably still increases line of sight. These pilots just don't have enough skill to have that bonus. I think the first bump is at Tactics 5.

I assume recoil is the refire penalty on autocannons.

Good catch on Guts apparently not effecting heat thresholds. It was the one bonus that didn't quite make sense and there might be equipment that will replicate the effect.

I believe Mike listed one or two different pieces of equipment (beyond heat sinks) that help with heat in their own ways. He wasn't super clear about them, but "Heat Banks/Converters increased Shutdown/Max Heat Tolerance" was the general idea.

Piloting: 5 - Evasion, 8 - Angel of Death? (New icon?)
Guts: 5 - Bulwark, 8 - Protector.
Tactics: 5 - Sensor Lock, 8 - Master Tactician.

Protector - From the Beta files it is a skill where as long as you are upright and functional, close allies can gain Braced when you use the skill.

As of the Feb Dev Q&A the second Guts skill was Juggernaut. Juggernaut conferred some sort of melee bonus (Mike couldn't remember exactly what) and also gave you the ability to reduce initiative of the target mech by 1 level when hitting them in melee.
