Help. Is there a mod to fix this? I'm editing save game files to see if it helps.

I've played about 50 years as Rome. Gone north about 2-3 provinces, but have not really attacked that way. Have gone east and have conquered Macedonia and most of the countries in that area. I've just started mixing it up with Carthage.

My problem is barbarians. They come in 2's and 3's. I've had a couple of attacks in the north with 10-12. I also had one 20.

I've handle it with out problem as I have 3 mobile legions with 8 cohorts each 4 (HI), 4 (Arch), 2 (calv).

All of a sudden, after attacking Carthage, a Barbarian army of 50 (yes five zero) plus a 39 and a couple of 20's are now marching towards me in the north.

That's over a hundred cohorts. More than all the cohorts and allies combined.

What gives? Can I fix this? Is there a mod? Can editing the save game kill this?

50 is normal for late game barbarian raids if you aren't proactive.

Personally I have found the best solution is to go bleed provinces that get high barb pop of 17 to 19 before it gets any worse with a stack of 30 with at least a 7 military leader.

I'll go about 3 provinces deep before returning.

Great way to get slaves and money.

To activate barbarians in provinces that are geting too dangerous I sugest recruiting 1 cohort of mercenary militia and send it to the rovince while your regular troops rest comfortably in your province they'll attack most likely. Saves a lot of manpower in attrition.
