Beautiful game, and oh boy have I been hyped and pumped, watched nearly every video made about this game. Thanks for releasing the most polished game so far!
But the Balkans is brewing, let me help you stabilize the gun powder barrel.
There are several issues and I will present them here and possible fixes.
Religion - Krstjani, Catholic,Orthodox towards Slavic
Rashka (Serbia) becomes christian officially 3 years after the game starts, so that is okay. But remember, majority of the population still heavily is influenced and worship the Slavic gods. One has to remember that the Serbs and Croats did not accept Christianity that easily without compromise. Slavic gods were incorporated towards the christian saint. This is still practiced to this day in 2020 and is the most holy of days called Slava. Jarilo became St George, Perun became St Elijah and so on. Even to this day Serbs still pray to their saint (old gods) before mentioning Christ or God.
Croats held similar traditions and worshiped Jarilo until 19th century, Muslim Croats and Serb also celebrated these old gods and were persecuted because of this in the 19th and 20th century.
Krstjani (bogomili) became a thing circa 200+ years after the game starts and are also heavily influenced on old Slavic traditions, this can be seen on the titular names for priests and so on.
All in all, major respect was still found for the Slavic faith and the -60 penalty for Slavic faith being Evil is out of sync and extremely unbalanced if trying to play a Slavic king. I have been in over 60 war I guess, defensive wars in less then 20-30 years. Sometimes 3-6 wars at the same time (holy wars and angry orthodox/krstjani/catholicsslavic rulers.
Fixes - Remove Krstjani entirely and replace with Catholicism as this was how it was, Serbs and Croats left of Drina river were catholic, major conversion to orthodoxy and Catholicism came after Saint Sava. This creating the distinct line between faith and ethnicity that we know today. Make Krstjani a formable religion at later date where requirements are to have Slavic faith provinces and being either catholic or orthodox Croat or Serb ruler.
Having Catholics consider Slavic faith Evil is okay, but somehow reducing the penalty for Slavic people being catholic hating Slavic faith would be optimal.
Change Orthodoxy to not consider Slavic Evil
Culture - Bosnian, Serbian and Croatian. Slavic hate
There is multiple gameplay balance issues and historical issues here. As the Slavic faith was still heavily present in the people, culture and traditions, it feels weird that they hate each other so for being different religion or "culture". This is not 1992, Serbia and Croatia never fought in a war against each other, and avoided offensive wars in general this is documented in De Administrando Imperi
Bosnian culture is also weird in a historical and gameplay sense. The ethnicity today called Bosniak not Bosnian which is a regional term used for people living in the region Bosnia and not an ethnicity indicator did not exist officially until 1986. That is 1119 years off in historical accuracy. There is no mention of a ethnicity mentioning themselves as Bosnian, the correct term would be Bosniak and is a movement that started in the 19th century and gained finally recognition in 1986. Aka Croat or Serb muslims beforehand.
Tldr: Bosnian is not a culture it indicates south Slavic regional term for a geographical area (Hercegovzi, dalmatinci, sumadinci, slavonci.
Bosniak which is a ethnicity is officially recognized 1119 years after game start. There is no mention of Bosnian or Bosniak culture/tribe/people/culture in the documents of this era of the Slavic tribes inhabiting the Balkans.
Fix:
Remove Bosnian culture and replace it with Croat culture in most western parts and Serbian in most eastern parts as correctly done with EU4 before the new DLC which also is incorrect.
Make Serb and Croat cultures get bonuses for interaction and opinion towards each other.
Make Bosniak a event based or spawnable culture if Serb or Croat provinces are muslim for a prolonged period of time.
Truces, rebells and holy wars
As first mentioned I have been in more wars then in EU4 and CK2 combined then the first years of CK3 because of the aforementioned issues plus these that I will mention soon.
Truce timer is to short - White peace or winning a holy war against oneself is only 5 years. If you then consider the constant multiple wars you will be attacked again while still in other wars making an never ending loop of getting declared on.
There should be some penalty for a nation to lose a offensive holy war as to discourage them to attack straight again in 5 years and then lose then again attack in this loop of hell.
Rebells are affected because of the aforementioned issues, different culture and religion that considers you evil. You will have every single province except the only playable Slavic faith province rebell and hate you. You start with -60 opinion of peasants in all provinces. They will all declare war against you (Bosnian krstjani, serbian orthodox, catholic) You will win and because of the previously mentioned truce timer they will again revolt even though you have fought them 6 times in a row and won them 6 times in a row.
This constant war makes you go in debt because you have levies raised day 1 to infinity. Thankfully the Byzantines don't attack you often and if you manage to crumble the Bulgarian Empire with a sneaky murder they don't have time for holy wars either. The problem is the Croatian states and the rebels the majority of the time which results in never ending war even if you manage to win them all the time of white peace.
Fix:
Make truce timers for lost holy wars to be much longer 10-15 years.
Make peasant revolts somehow manageable by implementing aforementioned tips on fixes. While also maybe adding a 10-15 year truce timer on cultures and religions revolting.
