okay a question from someone who doesnt have the game yet:

Are the smaller nations dommed to be small pathetic nations and technological degenerates (as in HoI) or does small nations have a chance to keep up in tech and with some luck grow into a superpower (as in EU2)

Played a game as Sicily, Conquered the Italian Peninsula and became the #1 world power in the game..

Just finished a game as the United States of Central America, became a force to be reckoned with.

It's "Difficult", but not "Doom".

You can have a very fun game with Hannover, get involved in plenty of wars, be industrial and quite advanced. I don't think you will be a superpower but then again I don't play that way.

It depends on how small the country you chose. If it's a western country, you would have more of a chance.

If you're Tibet, you're doomed from the start.

But the point is - is it the case like in HoI, where if you play as El Salvador, it'll take you a couple of YEARS to research... landmines for example. What sense does that make? 2 years to research a basic landmine. C'mon now. That is pretty pathetic. An insult to El Salvadorian battlefield tech researchers.

Nope, reasearch depends on two things:

- Research points. Each tech requires a certain number of RP.
- Time. Reaserch-time progresses as long as you have allocated all the needed RP or are generating positive RP (that is being added to this tech's research)

Therefore, there are limitations on how fast nations can research stuff, equalizing major and minor nations on a whole different scale than HOI.

In Vicky, El Salvadorian researchers will get the credit they are due ;)

There should be an effect- like there is in certain otehr games I play... where a tech gets easier (less points required), after more and more countries have it. If no one has it, then you are pioneering it, and it's expenseive to research. On the other hand, if everyone has it except you - then it should be rather quick for you to get, compared to the ones that first researched it.

Btw, I find it ironic that I'm talking to a Norwegian, as I just happen to be listening to A-Ha (Take on me) on the radio... A sign perhaps?

Sound reasonable. Would also make it easier for me to catch up in culture in the late game after I always prioritize industry and commerce. Sounds like something for the 1.02 wish thread, allthough it might have game-balance issues that need to be looked into first :)

Hehe, might be, just as long as you don't let the lyrics give you any ideas ;)

IIRC, after a certain date, certain inventions will have a very high chance of "happening" to you.
