Maximilian I had died and now the seven elecorates had met in Frankfurt to elect a new emperor for the HRE.
Christoph I was sitting in his chamber as I entered.
"Prechaun, you know that tomorrow the new emperor will be elected." - "Yes Sire, I know, but I don't know who you're going to give your vote. It is said, that the boehmian King will vote for Francois I of France, Saxony and Brandenburg will possibly follow. For Karl V of Austria the votes from the three archbishops are secured. It's your vote that decides who will be the ruler of the empire..."
Suddenly Karl V entered the room. "Prechaun, leave us!" - "Yes Sire!"
Karl V left Duke Christoph when the sun began to rise. Four hours left and the election would be in progress. I didn't know what there has been discussed, but I was sure that Duke Christoph would act in the right way.
The election chamber
The two men who claimed the crown of the HRE sat in the middle of the room and were waiting. The imperial observer, who guided the election said:"Saxony votes for Francois I of France." The voteless sovereigns of the HRE started whispering: "3:3, now it all up to Christoph..."
"Well, Duke Christoph of Baden electorate of the Palatinate, your vote please." the observer looked at our Duke. Christoph gave the scoll to me, and I handet it over to the observer.
- Silence -
"Baden voted for... Karl V of Austria. Hail to emperor Karl V!"
All the sovereigns stood up and cheered "Hail to the emperor."
Karl V stoop up as well and thanked all of them, but then he went to our noble Duke, shook his hands and said: "We knew, we can rely on you, KING Christoph of Baden." then he left.
I looked towards Christoph and I wanted to ask him, but he said: "Wait Prechaun, wait I'll tell you later."
As we left the churchbells of Frankfurt startet to ring, giving signal to the people, that the HRE had a new emperor...
Road between Frankfurt and Karlsruhe
"Sire! Riders!" We turned around and saw seven riders. As they approached we saw the imperial flag flying over their heads.
"Sire, my name is Georg Truchsess, Fieldmarshall of the imperial army. I'm your servant." - "Prechaun, may I introduce you to our new Fieldmarshall. He is one of the "gifts" from our emperor for his election." Christoph smiled.

The throne chamber in Karlsruhe
Christoph I knelt in front of the arcbishop of Mainz and waited for his crown. Emperor Karl V and his sister, the future wife of Christoph's son Bernhardt stood next to him and smiled as the arcbishop put the new crown on Christoph's head. Then the bishop said: "Stand up King Christoph and let your subjects pay homage to you."

"Let me explain this to you Prechaun, the emperor want's us to be the active part in his politics to surpress those heretic protestants. Though we do not have an official alliance with Austria, they will remain neutral, if we attack nations within the HRE who will probably convert to protestantism." - "But why does.." - "It is his opinion, that the emperor should not fight against his own subjects. We are his spearhead for catholicism, understood?" I nodded and left.
Rumors spead that many of the northern sovereigns were very attached to protestantism - that would be a long, hard fight.
The religious wars will be up Sunday...
