Re: Badboy

But it's not all that real. I refuse to believe 12 countries would actaully ally all against me for annexing 3 minors, all having one province a piece.

Since BB is a relatively new feature that radically affects the playbalance of the game, I am sure it will take awhile to work out all the kinks. The next patch will probably adjust how it works, and will need to have adjustments to that adjustment and so on.

I just hope that Paradox puts out a good read-me file with the patch so we can understand what changed without having to play 20 hours of 'What-ifs' to figure it out. (The hidden game mechanics with no detailed documentation are my only real beef with this game.)

In the meantime, just save the game after each Badboy event and edit the value to whatever penalty you feel is appropriate.

Thanks for your replies about opening .eug. :)

BB suggestion for 1.08: since bb is such an important part of the game, how 'bout letting us see our bb rating from INSIDE the game. It takes close to 5 minutes for the game + save file to load back & get me to where I was (& I have a superfast computer, 1.5 mhz), so why make me leave the game to see this integral rating?

Ehm, have you tried
1) Pause
2) Save
3) Alt-Tab
4) Check savefile
5) Alt-Tab back

Takes me about 20 seconds, and I don't have a 1.5GHz machine ...

Stephen, some more numbers for you.

Danzig+Posen (My DOW) +5

The rest are from defensive wars, in the last 30 years of the game brought on by the badboy value being high.

Baden +5
Kleeves (from France) +0
Luxembourg (from Spain) +0
Hesse (2 provinces) +7

It looks like you get a 0 increase if you take territory from the country which DOWs on you, but if you take anything from their allies you get hit with an increase.

I would assume that this is the same case as becoming the offensive part when making a separate peace even if your allaince where initially DOWed on.

Making a separte peace your proably (in the gameengine) creating a new war whith you as the aggresor and thus recieve full BB.

Good input Sean

I very much like the idea of the bad boy value, and some of the comments in this thread and eleswhere to tweak it a bit are good feed back. I wouldn't want to see this game degenerate into a C&C style 'conquer the world' clone - that would be a disgrace to an excellent game and gameplay! ;)

It is historic that a conquering nation would get set upon by opponents. Expanding is not the only thing, nor is it always the main point in this game.

I think similar ideas have been expressed to these.

Maybe if the badboy value were tied in to how big a nation is already, so that if someone small like Brandenburg takes a province, or annexes a one-two province German state, they don't get the same badboy 'hit' as a much larger nation. It would also make it easier for someone like Austria to expand a bit, since they start off pretty small. Even if they are to peacefully annex Hungary, they need to be larger than them, I believe.

Also some mods on what provinces are taken or nations annexed may make some sense - not sure about that though. Russia expanding to the South, or Spain annexing some Muslim nations, already mean a lot lower badboy rating than them taking same religion provinces. Playing as Russia, I did conquer and annex Kazan, Crimea, Astrakhan and Sibir probably within a 20-30 year range - TOUGH FIGHTING, BTW! I wound up with a moderately high badboy rating, which I didn't find so out of line - IMO. Even though these annexations were against Muslim, or other religions than mine, I still did aquire more territory, economy and strength. Perhaps here, Turkey should become a bit more angered than France for instance.

You do have to play it right - especially use wars declared against you for expansion? (maybe one reason for the diplomatic 'Send letter of insult.') ;)

BB

I've been playing peacefully instead and it's paid off a little bit.

As Austria ,however, I have not been able to vassalize Hungary. We've been a +200, and in an alliance for about 80 years now. I've made 5 attempts, all have failed.

I'm also at +200 with Venice, who I've tried to vassalize 2 times and failed, we're all in the same alliance.

My current rulers diplomatic skills are ranked good. So I don't understand the peoblem, I've given both nations plenty of money.

Also I'm at +140 with Savoy and I'm getting ready to vassalize them. We've all been in the same alliance for about 40 years. We've fought the Ottomans together and they even gained provinces thanks to my efforts.

I did get a minus when I annexed Milan, but I had to they revolted from the French and it was just too tempting. 100,000 citezens in the city. The most I had in any Austrian city was 15,000.

But then I inherited the throne of bavaria, a very nice thing. But I still got an increased BB value for that. THAT'S WRONG. I shouldn't have that happen to me.

Also, BB value goes up when you compete in markets I found out. Eventually Every nation that has it's own COT kicks everyone out. And if you compete with them you get the - relations. Not very fair, afterall I'm just trying to make a living.

I got -150 with Portugal because I established a monoply and refused to let them have it.

Not very fair considering I don't have a COT of my own.

But I still have relatively good relations except with the few protestant countries around me, and bohemia of course. I'm thinking about annexing them. But I wonder how much it will hurt me. Maybe I should just take all the provinces except the Capital and then annex them later.
